What cables are you using between pre and power amplifier folks? What is your experience with different cable constructions like solid core, multi core, shielded, unshielded, pure silver, pure copper etc, etc?

I'm using Acoustic Zen Reference Matrix 2 between ATI amp and Modwright swl 9.0. It'a an all copper wire I've used for a while. I've tried Harmonic Tech, Synergistic Research, and Morrow Audio over the years but always come to AZ. I like the sound of copper IC's . I have Clear Day speaker cables and those are all silver. The combo of tubes and solid state copper and silver works well for me.

If I use only copper cables I miss the sparkle at the top end. I am using DH labs right now. I think they are great

I started out with DH labs a good while ago and still have a couple of pair around here somewhere. But trust me, a solid, as pure as possible copper cable will have the sparkle. I'm the same way. I like that little sparkle on top of the music too, and perhaps my speaker cables provide it. But Acoustic Zen also makes the Reference Matrix silver IC. It's pricey and was a little to bright in my rig. But my speaker wire made everything bigger and I had to turn it down a bit when I first put them in. Audioquest uses stranded pure copper and for the most part, are really good wires. All price points too.

Audioquest uses SOLID-core wire exclusively.

I am using Audio Sensibility Statement SE OCC XLR interconnects and Wireworld Electra OCC power cables. I did use silver plated copper cables before but I found it to be too bright for my young ears. Especially with that Beryllium tweeter on the Focals.

You're right pj. My mistake. I was thinking of someone else while I was typing.

AZ 'SIlver Ref II's = Excellent. Another league altogether from Copper Matrix.

Earlier today purchased DH Labs ('brand-new' design) SilverPULSE IC's (Balanced and SE). Running cables for some break-in.
The SilverPULSE are Long-Grain OCC silver-plated copper/Teflon dielectric/Ins. ($120-$150/m SE/Bal)..

So far; clean/clear, open, resolving, balanced, lucid and dynamic. A few days in should clear things up even further.

Two weeks ago I switched out the Transparent Ultra ICs for ZenWave D4 silver-gold alloy ICs and it was a great improvement in SQ for my system.

audio.bill: I was thinking the same thing. However, AZ's MC=2 digital (pure silver) is a highly regarded digital cable -and not terribly expensive.

Hmm: Do you feel the same about your 'other' cables ?

(RE. " ... Why not offer cheaper plugs? The plugs are key and often more important than the wire with AC power!" )

No.

Also, my AC power cables sound fairly similar to one another and this isn't the case with ALL power cables, just the ones I carry.

My choice is a bit biased I guess, since I am running Spectral Pre / Power Amp I chose to run Spectral MI-350 Ultralinear II Interconnect.
