Bad early stereo mixes. Why not remix them for better stereo sound?
The RVG Blue Note recordings have and are being remixed by Michael Cuscuna as part of Blue Notes RVG reissue program . I believe it started in 2003, they have been received with some likes and dislikes. Rudy himself balked at first but then gave the go ahead. I am posting some links to articles...- Gary D

If you are located in a metro area I would find a Tech that can check it out.There is a Studer List in Yahoo groups that can supply good info.Gearslutz.com is a good site for locating Tech's.It does sound like a tension problem or a reel motor ...- Gary D

I'm tempted but my brain keeps telling me No.
To me this is way over the top.You can find these on Craigslist for as little as $600 just 2 weeks ago in Dallas,Tx.The deck is in good condition but hey it's a prosumer deck not a mastering deck.You can buy a Studer A80VU for $2500 all day.There are A810'S in Germany that sell for a fraction of...- Gary D

In my experience with the A820 the transport was very good only if you kept the tape path very clean all the time.The Time code head feature was a big part of that as residue built up very fast.That said the transport would malfunction at times in recording sessions arrrgh.There are only three...- Gary D
