Pilium Audio in action-

Between the period between 2002-2007 when I was studying engineering at uni, I literally listened to rock music everyday.

Years have passed but still, my love to rock is like the first day when I listened to the wonderful song 18 And Life of Skid Row and then followed suit with countless ballads and heavy metal songs.

The Loner by Gary Moore is probably one of the very best ballads for electric guitars, not a single word but just a beautiful melody. Although this track was included in his Platinum album which was released in 2006 in standard red book format, it's great to listen to.

Have a great weekend everyone.

A Super Set-Up !

People don't realize how critical quality amplification is to performance.

The Westminster gear is lovely sounding as well. There are few solid state amps that are also very liquid sounding. I share your issues with Pilium's size, as I no longer can easily lift a 150 pound box by myself, however me thinks Piliums' corporate motto probably is: Buy our amps once, place them on the stand and you have no need to move your gear for an eternity, hehehe. For obsessive and frequent gear churners like some of us, Pilium's weight and size, and electrical requirements of 20A lines is a headache. However in the end, I think with some speakers (like B&W 800 series) it very well may be worth it.
I bought a pair of Westminster Labs REI amps which power Von Schweikert VR9 SE Mk2 (upgraded). They are ample power. They replace 50 years of tube amplification (I'm 68). No worries about impedance matching, output tubes wearing out (sometimes taking the voltage regulation), heat, etc. They just sound like the upstream source and ancillary equipment. Neutral. Small. Powerful. Affordable. The first time I've tried and owned a solid state amp (now permanently). As with the speakers, my last purchase in those two categories (sorry manufacturers).

Somehow I missed your posts here, Sonrock.

Big congratulations on the new system!

Thanks so much Ron, hopefully soon I’ll be able to report a full loom of world class cables at their highest level possible when they arrive here in my room for some serious listening. Just not sure when but it’ll be an amazing experience when having an opportunity to try some of the best cables in the market.

On another note, the Absolute Points footers from Hifistay are truly fantastic. Since I have them here under the dcs, they have never been moved.

It’s truly interesting to see how they make positive changes to my system, especially with my dac. Prior to having the footers, it was easy to spot the differences when I switched between filters. But with the footers, those differences become blurry and actually the dac sounds better and more in line with my favourite choice for filter.

During the last 2 months I’ve bought over 100 CDs and not sure when this’ll stop. I keep discovering new songs and artists, sometimes from albums that I’ve just bought. Music has been a lot better and more exciting :). Have a great long bank holiday weekend everyone and wonderful music.

I'm a little puzzled about this. The footers have the subjective sonic effect of making things a little blurrier? Is this a good thing?

Does this suggest the dCS is too analytical/clinical/detailed-sounding for you in the first place?

No, not really. They are simply too powerful and dynamic that sometimes with the same type of music, you’re a bit overwhelmed and therefore don’t feel relaxed particularly at loud volume.

The footers are just amazing when it helps to retain all the best quality of my system but providing more relaxing sound with extremely powerful and dynamic music.

In fact, I have to trade off a bit between relaxing and dynamic sounds with the footers. But as my system has too much power and muscles so it’s not a problem for me.

I don’t know why with the footers underneath my dac, I can no longer spot the differences immediately or easily when switching the filters anymore.

I don’t think this’s good or bad because prior to having the footers, I’d already had my favourite filter set. So the footers just helps my dac to perform in the way that’s closer to my choice even when other filters selected.

I hope it makes sense :)

Thank you for explaining. All that matters is that you are happy with the resulting sound!

I understand that many people don’t like dcs simply because it provides too much detail and even extending both ends in the frequency spectrum. But they’re just doing their job to reveal what has been recorded should sound.

It doesn’t matter we like it or not, but that’s what the artists and recording engineers intended to showcase their music in the first place, true to their core.

It’s just incredible to me and others who are also using isolations and anti vibrations to achieve better results with music, particularly with dcs dac in this case.

Scientifically, I don’t know how they work their magic apart from removing or transforming unwanted energy generated from even tiny vibrations within electronic boxes to other types. But when it works then you’ll hear the differences. Fortunately, the differences are positive to me :)

It’s been awhile since I listen to music via streaming and this time Qobuz is doing a great job when I decided to stop my subscription with Spotify Premium after a long time and switched to this new platform.

And after a few days with raining that’s pretty much ruined our long weekend, the sun has finally shined and the reflection on the Maat speakers looks amazing. The photo taken from my iPhone doesn’t do the justice but I needed to capture this moment quickly ^^.

Could you specify what footers you are using and where ..

I’m using the Hifistay Absolute Points footers underneath my dcs transport and dac, 2 sets of 4 each plus the pure copper caps.

I’ve had a conversation with Jonghyun from Hifistay and potentially he’ll develop the lifters and shoes for my maat speakers so it’ll be interesting to see how the performance can be even better.

As far as I understand, Pilium is using top footers made by themselves in collaboration with a well known brand, so I don’t try Hifistay with them.

I'm quite confident you'll be in for some serious treat as Stella 100 made a profound impact with my speakers.

My room has 30cm solid concrete floor while the maat is 340kg/speaker net, so I am curious of how any supporting systems can improve the performance further, gonna be a great experience :)

I believe Stella 100 can bare up to 100kg/footer so it may be a great option for you. But maybe there is also 120 option. You need to check with John.
