Visit to Audiophile Bill to hear his horns project

Hello all. Just checking - been making a lot of progress with the bass horns as previously discussed. One of the main internal “arches” or the main “fold” has slowed me down because I ended up deciding to go the painful direction of making in solid wood by laminating horizontally - obviously...

American Sound AS-2000 Installations- Far East (Tango)

Thank you Peter - I missed this whole exercise in your old thread. Very interesting. The floor of your house is suspended? Do foot stomps not get transferred through your rack if you were to jump next to the rack?

American Sound AS-2000 Installations- Far East (Tango)

Hi Peter, Please can you share what you learnt specifically when you wrote “that it is not about dampening or eliminating the resonances. Success comes from learning or knowing how to manage them. This took time.” Would be enormously helpful. Thanks.

LFD Cables (phono and I.C.) from the UK, cables as components

I don’t think it will scare folks away, Mike. I think it will more intrigue people who presumably would want to understand how these dongles actually work based on the science. That is how does one arrive at the choice of various thicknesses? Why does the negative have so much more wire than the...

When I spoke to him he was very excited indeed and that excitement included hearing the Wadax too.

Oh boy, I am very jealous of Kedar spending the weekend listening to all your delicious gear. I suspect his list of “compares” has him salivating at the airport more so than the delights of airplane cuisine lol. Looking forward to reading and hearing about the Wadax digital front end even...

American Sound AS-2000 Installations- Far East (Tango)

I would describe them as “pretty” or “juicy” and beautifying a little bit, which is all good. If you add a shield to them to improve noise they lose some of these qualities alas.

I think I know what you are referring to because I hear a lot of tonal colour in the Duelands I made up / own.

This is my favourite article you have ever done, Ked. You won’t get this level of insight and experience across broad range of global systems coupled to educational setup advice anywhere on the web. Bravo.

Will be interesting to see how you get on. Scientifically speaking they will be quieter than 95% of audio fool cables due to their construction. I find that helpful in a very efficient system.

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

Glad you have zero hum, Mike. When you get around to inserting another filter cap, the noise floor improves again.

haha. To me they are very balanced (no frequencies sticking out at all) and extremely quiet.

Yes so many manufacturers don’t and get it wrong!

Not having a remote is the purist approach of course. Adding in the ability to adjust with a remote poses a not insignificant additional challenge (and components) that will have a deleterious impact on the sound unless extreme care is taken.

    On Cables

Hi Ron. It is worth checking out the Gotham gac 4 that Tango recommended me. It is star quad pro mic cable with W shields. Extremely quiet. Probably just what you want with that very long 50ft run.

No Lampi are their own thing in that sense. S1W are an Audio Note copy cat though lol.

    Jay's CDT-3 Mk III.

Hi Tom, Unless Lampi has changed recently, the only transformers used are for the power supplies namely toroid and chokes. They weren’t transformer coupled on the output or interstage - having said that I haven’t followed the pacific and horizon but I doubt they have changed in this respect.

    Field Coils for Audio Systems

I am no expert on this but found the following on the web: A fluxmeter is therefore different from a gaussmeter in two major ways. First, the fluxmeter measures total flux (?) over an area, where the gaussmeter measures flux density (B) at a single, small, point in space.

    Field Coils for Audio Systems

I am going to buy a gaussmeter actually - can get them for reasonable money now.
