Introduction
The voicing of a reference-grade sound system derives from the personality of keycomponents. While it’s certainly natural to think of “big ticket” items, such as amps, DACs, and speakers, dominating the...
Apparently many DACs that use I2S architecture and related chipsets do not correctly convert 16 bit samples to 24 or 32 bit words prior to conversion. What measures are typically taken to correct this problem, as described below? Which chipsets and DAC architectures are more subject to it...

PFO just posted my review of the Weiss DAC 202. It was a huge project, but please let me know what you think.
Currently, my in-house DAC is the Antelope Gold with Voltikus power supply. The Antelope uses an ovenized crystal oscillator, and is quite promising.
A two month trip to Nepal interrupted the plan to sell my pair of Wilson Sashas. Just got back from Nepal, then RMAF, and new speakers are on the way! These are the very pair reviewed in 6moons http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/wilson/1.html by me and Ed Kramer (using high-power solid state and...
Well, it's finally time to sell off my Wilson Sashas. They're terrific speakers, as you all know. There are new speakers on the way in, and I'm running out of space, short of sleeping on the porch. Friends and family pricing to What's Best members worldwide.
The speakers are in excellent...
Some new phase noise measurment gear finally arrived, so we are willing to take a look at any and all digital audio clocks that members would like to send in. Please PM for the details... and see example below. Now you'll know... What we're finding is that some clocks have good high-frequency...
Say, who's working with AES11?
What voltages does it use, and what does the digital signalling look like? My limited understanding is that it's "silent" AES3, meaning clock only, no music data. For some reason the specs are not that widely available, without shelling out $30 to the AES...
Who (around the world) does the best job on music servers and computer audio for the high-end? Of course there's Goodwin's in the Boston area. Who else comes to mind? What are your experiences, good, bad and in-between?
Anyone using the new series of Bel Canto DACs, for example the 1.5? Seems like a lovely product sound-wise, and beautiful build quality. Haven't had a chance to try it on the reference system.
There's a long review of mine on the Odyssey Kismets over at http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/odyssey2/1.html which includes several photos of the new style case. There's no forum at 6moons, so feel free to ask me questions here. The amps are really very, very good, and it will be interesting...
In many port-of-entry locales around the world, FOB has yet another meaning, namely, Fresh Off (the) Boat, referring to the appearance and demeanor of one's plausibly-deniable and in any case, distant relatives just arrived from some teeming, steaming equatorial third-world metropolis, decked...
There's a designer in Colorado, Jeremy Walsh (a.k.a. Jerry) who has spent the past few years developing a liquid-filled cable technology. www.audio-magic.com. Apart from high-grade connectors that fit snugly and securely, these cables are exceptionally flexible which is a pleasant change from...
What easy ways are there to monitor power output? Are there any devices that can be clipped on to a system, and ideally feed up to a software application? It would be fun to have some big McIntosh style meters, on my PC or perhaps use the data to modulate some on-screen lava lamps.
Seeing...
Fellows (gals?)... for those of you interested, my review of the INT 202 just came online over the weekend. Check it out at http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/weiss5/1.html
The device is very, very good, at around $2100 US. Haven't had a chance to try out the dCS USB interface, $5K, nor new...
Anyone have music servers from either of these two companies? They both launched new products recently which look to be considerably evolved from earlier units. What other music servers are people using?
This is a cross post from the Tech Talk section, but I thought everyone here in the Digital section would like to see it, and make comments...
As mentioned in earlier posts, a treasure-trove of jitter related papers all stems from the work of the late Julian Dunn at his colleagues in the UK...
Who else is using the DAC 202? It's pretty amazing. With Klaus Bunge's Odyssey Kismet monoblocks, the naturalness and freedom from coloration is truly excellent.
Anyone have them yet? I'm about to place my order... Robert Harley's review comes out in TAS 204 (mails 28 June) although there's a paid-content preview online presently.
The low-cost, but very high quality products (www.odysseyaudio.com) are built by one Klaus Bunge in Indiapolis. After 90 days of constant use, their conditioning phase is over, and the results are rather amazing. They run $4-5K depending upon the case and options, and provide about 180 watts, 60...
Hello Amir,
Say, did you notice that the limit on PDF file size for uploads is apparently only 19.5K? Or am I doing something wrong? I was thinking of uploading a review on the Lavry DA-11 DAC which mentions the Lindemann USB-DDC 24-96 and the Weiss INT 202.

Yes, we do have electricity in Hawaii, well, most of the time.
Out here, we're getting our juice from burning coal and bagasse at a "make work" sugar mill operation which hasn't been economically viable for years; a 30 MW wind farm, about to double in capacity; and some gas turbines. If the...
