This is great news. I'd buy one in a heartbeat (assuming a not-massive increase in price).
I asked Expert Stylus to take a quick look at my Reference (as I was sending a couple of other cartridges to them for servicing anyhow). They say that the diamond has very little wear.
I'm really looking...
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing.
My key takeaway: both the vinyl lacquer and the 24/96 digital are miles behind the live performance (when he played the song again). It was an expensive replay system they used, but perhaps its cost doesn't correlate well with its sound quality?
And of...
Yes, maybe. But I'm convinced this has nothing to do with 'ringing'.
As I said, if a gun were held to my head, I'd say that it might be due to noise modulation.
I showed that with real music, even using a 'fast' anti-imaging filter in the DAC and then a 'fast' anti-aliasing filter in the ADC, any ringing lies at <-200dB in the passband.
Yes, you can measure ringing using impulses. But these are not bandlimited.
I've spent an eternity trying to get my vinyl rips to sound like the original vinyl. I've owned ADCs from Pacific Microsonics, Prism Sound, RME, Tascam, Korg, MOTU, etc. There's something about the original vinyl that my vinyl rips seem to miss. However... I'm not sure if this is down to the...
Ahem...
The Nyquist frequency is actually 22.05kHz for redbook. An 'ideal' anti-imaging filter would be flat up to 20kHz, and then attenuate sharply to well below -100dB by the Nyquist frequency.
For fun...
Take any 24/44.1 (or 16/44.1) audio file you have. Upsample it to, say, 8x using...
I know this has already been linked to, but anyone interested in understanding digital audio should watch this:
D/A and A/D | Digital Show and Tell (Monty Montgomery @ xiph.org) - YouTube
What he says and shows seems perfectly reasonable to me, but I'm open to hearing any opposing views.
Mani.
Hi George, I'm genuinely interested in understanding your persepctive. Could you expand on what you think ultimately holds digital audio back, or cite some references that I could read up on?
(I used to own a Pacific Microsonics Model Two, and recall Keith Johnson saying that vinyl had a...
Just to wrap this thread up...
Yesterday, when I tried to select the G1.1 from Roon, I got a message saying that it was not Roon certified.
I set the G1.1 back up again today, and the first thing it did was to automatically update its firmware (it didn't do this yesterday). It now works...
As I mentioned to you on WAM, when another software player allows me to do this...
... which I need in order to control all this...
... I'll consider it.
Lack of, in this case.
Shame, because I think the products are good enough to stand on their own, without the need for overly-embellished marketing. I really like my old Aries G1. I suspect I'd like the G1.1 too, if I could get it working with Roon . But I don't like being told that it has...
Haha... neither! The G1.1 currently does not play with Roon, as it's not yet certified:
So, I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet as I use Roon exclusively (I need its DSP for my fully active 8-channel setup).
In any event, this isn't the show-stopper for me - no doubt it'll get sorted...
I've just received a brand spanking-new Aries G1.1. I've got three problems with it:
1. On their website, Auralic claim the Aries G1.1 to be RoonReady. It isn't. When trying to connect, Roon says that the G1.1 is not certified and therefore refuses to connect. I've had an Aries G2.1 (on loan)...
Bill, you'll no doubt recall that I had the Swings a while ago. Nice enough in some areas, but having natural mids wasn't one of them. Maybe carbon fibre/rubber resin fixes things, but personally I'll stick with wood (for bass, upper-bass- and mid-horns at least).
Look, I'm sure if we ever bumped into each other, we'd have a great conversation about our respective audio journeys over a nice beer. Let's leave it there.
@christensenleif@msn.com , it seems you're happy with your setup. I certainly am with mine. As I said, everyone to their own.
I only posted here to correct your blatant mistake that the Neurochromes are class D. If you can't even get that right, then I'll take everything else you say with a...
To my ears, the Neurochromes are as near to perfect amps as I've ever managed to find. They have the harmonic richness of my old Thoress/Elrog 300B monos and the clarity and speed of my old First Watt F5 monos. You can put your ear next to the mouth of the 109dB/W@1m tweeter and hear just the...
The Neurochrome Modulus range of amps are not class D - they're class AB. They sound superb IMO - better than any other amps I've ever had/tried here with my horns.
(Neurochrome do sell an input buffer for Hypex class D amps though.)
Mani.
Running a total of 8 amps, I ruled out using any valve or SS class A amps. Instead, I opted for Neurochrome 286 modules. These are fully balanced, class AB amps, with truly exemplorary performance specs. I got a local amp builder to build a bunch of mono amps for me with beefy linear power...
@bonzo75 , this is all set up now:
Why are the Marvels (sans high horns) there too? They're acting purely as subs! Crazy, I know.
The improvement in sound over stock is better than I could ever have imagined. If you feel like a little train trip, it'd be more than worth your while, I can...
They're the Tune Audio Marvel... the smaller sibling of the Tune Audio Anima, which I have in my main listening room. Nice speakers, but quite a few notches down from the Anima in sound, even driven by the F4 monos.
Mani.
Sure. I'll start a new thread to stop this one getting corrupted.
Incidentally, I have a pair of genuine F4 monos in my office system, which I love :).
Mani.
I'll be trying a digital 4-way crossover (4-way multi-amping with an extra pair of bass drivers) and digital room correction with my Animas in the next few weeks. I'm aiming to high-pass the Anima bass horn at around 70Hz, so it'll become a mid-bass horn effectively - the extra bass drivers will...
Firstly, a massive thanks to Paul at Lounge Hifi (UK dealer) and Tim at Kog Audio (UK distributor) for arranging a home demo of the Extreme for me. I was expecting to get a few hours or so with the Extreme, but had it for pretty much a whole week. Awesome service!
Oh, and a massive thanks to...
