I hope the Green Book wins it all. PGA award gives it a decent chance.

Have yet to see the Favourite and doubt i will before rental.

Steve, just a suggestion: Why don't you join this thread with the other.
_____

"Without a clear frontrunner for the best picture award, or confirmed host(s), this year’s Academy Awards ceremony — which will air live on February 24 at 8 p.m. EST — is shaping up to be an unpredictable evening. Perhaps there is some insight to be gleaned, however, through the number of nominations handed out to Roma and The Favourite: 10 each, including Best Picture.

Other movies in the race for the highest honour at the Oscars include Bohemian Rhapsody (five nominations) and Green Book (five nominations), two movies that have received their fair share controversy in the lead up to Tuesday’s announcement. Box office hits A Star Is Born (nine nominations) and Black Panther (seven nominations) will also be in the hunt for the final award of the night. While rounding out the eight-movie Best Picture field is BlacKkKlansman (six nominations), Spike Lee’s hard-hitting treatise race relations in the U.S., and Vice (eight nominations), a biographical look at former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney that received a mixed critical reception."
_____

Total Nominations (Films having the most):

* Roma: 10 ? check
* The Favourite: 10 ? check (including two in the same category: Best Supporting Actress)
* A Star Is Born: 9 (error) actual is: 8 ? check
* Vice: 8 ? check
* Black Panther: 7 ? check
* BlacKkKlansman: 6 ?check
* Bohemian Rhapsody: 5 ? check
* Green Book: 5 ? check

It's fine the way it is

as for the film not being aired in 2 theater chains it is a Netflix film and that is their policy. No big deal

I thought Green Book was far superior to Roma

It'll be a face-off between Rami Malek (who was my favorite) and Christian Bale who was my follow up Best Actor

Both nailed their roles and are highly deserving. Amir would be OK

Big snub for Bradley Cooper who was not nominated for Best Director yet his film was. Shades of Ben Affleck and Argo

'Roma' did play in selected theaters briefly. It's a beautiful film (and far superior than the rest), for me it's a big deal...but I'm going to sleep real well nonetheless.

'Green Book' was very good too, it'll get some @ the Oscars I'm sure.

I hope Glenn Close wins for "The Wife." I thought she was outstanding.

It was a wonderful film too.

The Favorite was very quirky and a lot of fun.

Yeah, I've heard *extremely* polarizing views on this film. Knowing my preferences, unlikely i'm a fan.

ps. Standoff at Sparrow Creek was produced by a friend - you guys can check it out on iTunes or cable VOD:

Keith,
I have the screener, I'll let you borrow it so you can watch it in the comfort of you're own home.

Imagine if Melissa McCarthy won best actress ROFL

I'm a bit surprised to not see Roma nominated for Best Film Editing.
I'm also happy to see A Quiet Place nominated for Best Sound Editing.
Very nice to see Roma nominated for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.
Free Solo is a clean winner for Best Documentary Feature.

Best Original Score, hmmm ... Isle of Dogs, Black Panther, ...?
Best Costume Design, hmmm ... Black Panther, The Favourite, ...?

Best Visual Effects, hmmm ... Ready Player One, Avengers: Infinity War, ...?

Not a single nomination for Mission: Impossible - Fallout ... zero.

Who's going to host the show next month on the 24th; Lady Gaga, The Incredibles?

It's always been a puzzle to me how a film could win best movie but not it's director and so also we've seen best director win but not his film. I could never understand that

Roma IMP will win many awards most of which will go to Alfonso Cuaron himself. IMO there was no better cinematography or sound editing as was in this movie

Roma takes me back to 1998 when Life Is Good was nominated for Best Foreign Film and won as did Roberto Bergnini in the film for best actor even though it was in Italian with English subtitles.

Having said that when I walked out of the theater that day I said Best Picture and Best Actor.The story was fabulous and the acting by Bergnini was masterful. I just didn't have that fuzzy feeling when I left the theater having seen Roma.

I agree; Best Picture and Best Director they go together.

The reason why it is not always the case, in my opinion, is because some of the 8,000 Academy voters (now in 2019) they just don't know how to vote properly (making sense). They separate them enough (categories) to create what you've just said.

And of course not all films are nominated for both Best Picture and Best Director.

Sad year for the awards...

It's not the best year, I agree.

If Roma wins, expect backlash.

What kind, a divisive riot on the streets?

Both Green Book and The Favourite have a good shot @ it too.
May the best win and peace on Earth.
