Recently came back from the show. Surprisingly, and given the recent shake ups in the High End society show structure, this years “redheaded stepchild” Vienna 2024 Finest Audio Show was free to visit, extremely well spaced out and organized at the Austria Center in Vienna and with some really impressive audio setups.
The few that stood out in my mind, in the order in which they impressed me were the Broadmann JB205 with their partnering active subs. The sound certainly set the bar at the show, delivering a stunningly realistic, natural and well balanced portrayal of live music. So much so that I consider this system now to be my benchmark for “natural sounding life-like musical reproduction”. What a truly remarkable achievement by the chief constructor, who I’ve had a chance to chat with at the show:
Next in line was the Odeon Horns system accompanied by NAT electronics. What a magical pairing this was. NAT adds the organic and tactile feel to the music while the Odeon horns project the sound stage in such a way that it almost feels like you are listening to planar speakers.
Finally, Zellaton Plural Evo speakers are top notch, no doubt about it. They have tantalizing highs and just an overall appeal to the sound that’s hard to deny. The electronics (the phono setup) didn’t feel right at the show (something seemed off with the matching there), but no one could deny the quality and the extremely meticulous build of these speakers:
Thank you!
Other honorable mentions include the Russell K Red 150SE speakers — perfect example of a well executed British sound. Creamy and seductive yet highly resolving and accurate mids and highs. What a lovely speaker.
The Radiopotar (potar.at) — a technical tour de force, an active 3 way DSP system that projects the sound in 360 degrees. While lacking just a touch of refinement it projected the sound stage in almost an eerie 3D quality.
The Wilson Benesch ACT 3Zero Speakers and partnering WB sub. Truly a sound that goes well beyond the relatively modest volume of the speaker enclosures.
