BTW, here's another thing to consider....for the kind of money that is spent on a lot of this gear, the audio consumer could acquire a magnificent musical instrument and take lessons from the best instructors for years.

I never had world class instructors, But I did play a magnificent alto saxophone and a good Yamaha piano at least well enough to entertain others for most of my life. I never found that that in any way diminished my desire for better and better stereo systems.

I don't play anymore. While building a set of subwoofers I had designed I accidentally sawed off three of my fingers. The life of a brain damaged woodworker is fraught with danger.
