Alsyvox planars...prepare to sell your Magico's, YG's, Wilson's, Cessaro's. Maggie's, and all others!!

Just a quick note to thank Bob at Rhapsody, Daniele Cohen, Buffer, and all of those here who responded to my post concerning amplification for my Leo 8's! I've settled on the absolutely amazing New Audio Frontiers Supreme 300B SE, which shares listening time with a pair of (highly modified and fully restored by a local tube amp expert, Todd Sharp) vintage VTL Deluxe 120 mono blocks, which use the unusual 807 tube. Also thanks to Brent Jesse Recording, who has patiently assisted me with tube selections. With the Cinnamon Galle DAC in the system now I feel as if I am about as close as one can get given the limitations of technology (and my budget!) Best, BH

Regarding size,

Let's not forget the "little" model, Tintoretto, which is cheaper (but still very expensive), and is still 144cm tall. It is "officially" said (French distributor's website) that they are meant to "15 to 45m² rooms; the quality is strictly identical to the larger models.", with less deep bass probably, "25 Hz to 40 kHz flat, 93 dB/1w/1m" says the website. (I never heard the Tintoretto.)
An optional dedicated external filter seems to be available here too => Tintoretto "X".

(I only heard the Botticcelli X though. As medium-sized panels fit my room very well, I had been vaguely tempted by the medium-sized Tintoretto, but I can't afford, alas)

I own Leonardo 8's (Daniele Cohen's predecessor to the Boticelli) and have heard the Tintorettos on a number of occasions in my dear friend @David MS home. His room is small, but the sound is anything but! In fact, if musical engagement and involvement is your Gold Standard, his speakers (driven by a Reed TT/TG arm and DS Audio Grandmaster with McGary preamp and New Audio Frontiers Stradivari mono amps) is THE BEST I've ever heard in 48 years as an audiophile (and I used to be involved in the business, visit shows, etc.) BH

Is DaveyF being called back after this prophecy turned out right and has anyone asked him what he thinks of Clarisys Vs Alsyvox

What is the frequency deviation of Botticelli and Caravaggio (their website says 22Hz, but doesn't mention the frequency deviation)?
Bass, especially with panels is SO room and placement dependent that the general output is only described as 22Hz without a deviation specification.

Thanks to Dominique Windeck and Marc Loubeau of Prestige Audio Diffusion, I was able to listen to the Westminster Rei on my Alsyvox Botticelli X. The synergy with the Nagra HD preamplifier was remarkable, and I can attest that these “little boxes” take the Botticelli to new heights, both in musicality and realism, with incredible energy. The comparison with two highly reputed competitors, one in pure Class A, was cruel... Daniele Coen and Angus Leung are true innovators, and I'm not surprised that their products fit so well together.

That is pretty fascinating, Rotatoubib! I have been enjoying very much the REIs on Clarisys.

Would you please tell us the two other amplifiers you compared directly to the REIs?

Would you please tell us in more detail your sonic impressions of the REIs versus the other two competitors you compared it in your own system?

Thank you!

Hello Ron!
As I said that the comparison with REI was not in their favor, it wouldn't be very nice to quote the two amplifiers I'm talking about: one is made in the USA, the other in Europe, so I'll leave it at that! On the other hand, I have to say that the more powerful one delivers almost 500W on 4 ohms (impedance of the Botticelli) and that the sensitivity of the speakers being 94db, it doesn't work in its optimal range, maybe that's the explanation. As far as my sonic impressions are concerned, the Rei help to maintain legibility on complex passages such as a symphony orchestra, even at very high levels: in this respect, the last movement of the New World Symphony by Kertesz is very impressive. The energy released by these amplifiers is out of all proportion to their size! Finally, the timbres are very beautiful: I listen to a lot of classical music, and the voices are sublime. I think the Nagra HD goes well with the Rei, and perhaps that contributes to the final result.

Angus and I cannot thank you enough for you being a new owner of the WestminsterLab Rei amplifiers. Several months ago we completed our first installation of the Rei here in the states with Alsyvox, using a Poseidon DAC and Taiko server and the results were as you described. No surprise on the Nagra Ref pairing well given its fine execution of balanced circuitry. I also want to shout out Marc from Prestige Audio Diffusion, a new colleague, friend and part of the WestminsterLab family. Merry Christmas and enjoy the music!
