Any color, so long as it's black!

Or, in the case of most of the electronic audio gear out there-- Silver or Black...

Which brings me to one of my pet peeves in audio...almost all gear is one color or the other ( black or silver). I know there are a few exceptions, like the Dart gear ( which IMO is a very nice combo and should be a trend setter).
Nonetheless, it would seem that almost all audio electronics manufacturer's are not willing to experiment with color...Anyone have any idea as to why?

I'll tell you what bothers me, especially with black faceplates: The labeling of the controls is usually gray which requires me to put on my reading glasses. If the labeling was WHITE and had better contrast, I wouldn't need my glasses.

Labeling on silver faceplates is generally black which makes better contrast and easier reading.

I never listen to music with my glasses on, so there is the on and off with the glasses as the listening session proceeds.

I love the Champagne colour of the Marantz Reference gear.

I had a Holfi amp a few years back with a very nice wood front, that's not done often enough.

Well, there's also chrome :)

Do you think anyone would buy a pink Boulder amp?

That could be up to $30,000 extra for pink depending on the model :)

I think Simaudio introduced an IA and CDP that had their standard finish for the faceplate, but with a red casing. A 30th Anniversary Edition I believe.

Might appeal to the wife..:D

A few years back, EAD had a gold plated faceplate on their gear. Wasn't too popular but it did sell. Personally, I would like to see more color...like blue or green or brown ( some earth tones maybe) or red or?
Looking at black or silver is getting a little 'old'. Just saying..

Well I think the Dartzeel amps are the most hideously looking color made...

Well, Dave ... my entire audio system, including turntable & power line conditioners are all black. My current speakers are brown, but I will admit that my prior speakers were black. Even the outboard power supply and control box for my turntable is black ... but then again ... it includes a nice blue LED (although not that ultra bright SIM blue LED which almost blinded my vision).

Perhaps I have gone to the dark side?

Rega had some interesting colors.

And I think it's one of the prettiest :) Specially the 458.

Interesting fact: the darTZeel integrated is also made in black. 95% of the orders are for the gold/red version.

That amp with the wood front, OTOH, is plain ugly. I could just replace that with a piece of wood.

I find that a good business strategy , give the consumer the choice , but to go save its best to go grey /silver or black , the consumer is king.
As far as the anodization process, as was discussed in another thread if you anodize 6000 or 7000 series aluminium its means they are alloys of other metals and that might influence the colour outcome /colour to choose from.
That " might" also explain the enourmous cost of the black colour on the 3000 series ,....i hope :(:D otherwise a dye is a dye and i dont see the upcost for that

Which leads me in another direction. Just think of the money Herve' could have saved his his buyers if he didn't try to make it pretty. I bet 1/3rd the price if the 458 is in parts that have no effect on the sound!

go prototype

Which is exactly why I love my Prototype Berning amps, apart from the sound of course ;-)

Geez, all this time I thought that big, heavy, industrial, black, bordering on ugly, equipment ... was supposed to sound better.

I love the look of the Experience Music Gear:
