Are You Comfortable with Digital Vendors Pushing "Upgrades" On You Before Listening to Them?

Many digital vendors push upgrades for DACs and Streamers. Are you comfortable with that? In some cases it's better across the board - take dcs Apex, for example. (Although I wonder if anyone asked dcs to reverse the Apex.)

But what if some clueless computer geek pushes an "upgrade" and you don't like the sound?

Do most allow you to reverse it? Or are you stuck with something that's worse for you from what you originally purchased?

I love how most modern FPGA based DACs offer SW/FW upgrades, however I absolutely want to be able to roll back to a previous version if I don't like the changes. I haven't had any upgrades with my Weiss Helios since I purchased it, but I will ask the question before I perform and upgrades.
