-- There are several articles (blogs, videos, news, etc.) floating on the net where people are saying that she lip-synced.
'Bout Aretha Franklin? ...Nah, she wasn't.
* Gary, the microphone doesn't mean much if it wasn't plugged.
And the amplified song could have been an amplified recording (lip-sync). :b
And as for caring .... Beyonce is still pretty. :b
When I said it was miked and amplified, I meant exactly that. She wasn't belting it out screaming to the crowds like Lincoln 150 years ago when you heard the person's actual voice/no mike, no speakers.
-- Well, that's exactly why I started this thread; to know you guy's opinions.
Me, I'm just not sure; I ain't no expert in lip-syncing. ...So perhaps someone here knows some' I don't know. I'm here to learn. :b ...And I wanna learn.
It is possible it looked that way because sound travels slower than light, and at great distances between microphones, speakers and cameras, it is possible she looked out of sync even if she really was live. -- Just like at a baseball game where you see the ball fly off the bat before you hear the crack of the ball against the bat. Also, digital processing may have time delays.
I have mixed feelings. On one hand many, probably most, large productions like that use pre-recorded tracks to ensure a (near-)perfect performance. OTOH, as a performer, that sets an impossible standard and leads to the detriment of live music audiences as "live" will never meet the "perfect" criteria seemingly demanded by so many. There are times when I like to hear "perfect" studio takes, and of course that is our goal as musicians, but OTOH a lot of times I like the impact of a live recording (or better yet live performance!) And I do miss notes in performance now and then (not many or I wouldn't get called back, but a top-notch performer has to be essentially 100% these days, not something even a very good amateur -- or many pros -- can achieve).
I don't care if she lip-synced or not. I didn't pay for a ticket to hear her live, so it makes no difference to me. It is that simple.
If I went to an opera, and they lip-synced, it would bother me a lot and I would vocalize it. Heck, I think they should go back to the days where they didn't use any microphones at all, and the performers actually had to belt it out. That separated the men from the boys [or women from the girls].
I see absolutely no problem with her lip syncing the words. When Yo Yo Ma played cello at the last inauguration that also was taped. The reasons given are simple so what's the fuss?
The feelings are that the weather is so cold that all too often there can be audio and PA problems and this would be the last thing one would ever want at a Presidential inauguration. So for those that are flipped out that Beyonce lip synced, I say, "take a relax because it's all good"
