Biggest Star Ever Found Is Ripping Apart

Hmm, was hoping this was a Hollywood article about a celebrity having a nervous breakdown.

If there are worlds out there near this with life, can you imagine the energy [and mass extinction] that would be released when and if it collapses and creates a Gamma ray? Typically, a burst releases as much energy in a few seconds as our Sun will in its entire 10-billion-year lifetime and this star is the biggest one we have located so far? Can't exactly call that "typical". I can't even fathom the amount of energy that would create.
