Billionaire-Backed Space Venture Planetary Resources to be Unveiled April 24

Go for it because sadly it seems NASA is just a shell of it's former self :(

I don't know how much of this is search of science or billionaires going through ticking off their bucket list. But sure, if someone wants to do that without our tax dollars, let them go at it.

I applaud such efforts.. and frankly I have no problem with some of my tax dollars going for research .. How did we get the Internet? Most of the things from the Internet including the www came from tax dolars...So ...

We are entering to a new era of Colomb, Magellan and de Gamma of the space explorers ...

Thing is that those three intrepid explorers didn't have to face the conditions future astronauts will have to deal with, ESP. The issue of solar radiation! We really don't have the capability at present of shielding against the sun's radiation :(

I know this is very OT.

let's hope our space explorers do not repeat what Colomb did to the natives... In my country of birth, Haiti ALL the natives were wiped out ... ALL .. in the name of "discovery" ... these discoverers are no heroes of mine .. Sorry about the OT.

How about using the money to make our planet a better place? This is self-indulgence at its extreme.

I think my reply may have been jaded when I saw that James Cameron was involved! However, I'd much rather see the big spenders investing funds on how to solve some of the problems facing us today. I think it's important to look forward, but I guess I have too much of a social conscience to make me wanna holler "yippe-kay-aa" regarding this endeavor.
