Complete system for $10k that will sound good all day long.

So here is a thread put up in Blizzards Corner by a member who offered a $10K system that would sound good all day. Not only was his opinion stifled but the thread was usurped and taken completely off topic that I notice the OP has removed the OP. Surely there is something wrong here Mike. There were but a few posts discussing Marty's system but you took it completely off topic. I don't think I the only one who feels this way. Surely a member who starts a thread has some ownership

Yes what's wrong is I offered suggestions on how the system could be improved upon for less cost, and Marty was offended by it and took it personally. But it was nothing personal, just my feedback based on my experience with audio gear. This is "What's best forum" and if there's suggestions I can make that could improve preformance for less cost I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of.

You're no fun.

Here's some fun.

I love this, mad scientist vibe :D

It's very British shed looking, good cap and interesting earth wire wrap around on the mains cable.. Is that metal bowl for rfi shielding? :D

Take note Mike this is a real professor at work!

Oh and you scared off a good guy! Not your finest hour.

I think you're truly missing my point Mike.

Well there's a reason the sign on my door says what it does. You were the man who put it there. I'm an honest and direct person, and that's exactly why people read my sub forum. There was no personal attack or comments like most do around here towards me exchanged what so ever.

Nobody is ever going to get hurt by getting a better sounding audio setup for less money. Why wasn't there any problem when I was honest and direct about Marty's suggestion recommending the Gustard X20U?

Oh wait there was, just not by Marty. Sure is like walking on egg shells around here.

What's that?

There's an amplifier there, being tested out with everything you can think of that might make a difference. Including needing temporary check for RF shielding to determine the impedance behavior in relation to the different parts while in a high RF environment. I like that it looks a little crazy, it means I've been busy. Maybe some day I'll design out a bunch of custom boxes with adjustable legs and such to serve the purpose... but it's not often I need to do that, and I seem to have plenty of spare hunk of aluminum and odd cookware I've been gifted.

You shut him down in a unseemly manor Mike , there is truth and honesty and there is being a arse. Normally I don't mind but he seemed fun, and knows his onions. Extending respect to everyone is maybe a bridge too far for you lol but some guys deserve it.

Well you can't judge a book by it's cover. Maybe you won't require grounding boxes for best performance if you learn some things with your experiments.

I have been talking to Marty about the streamer and amp on other threads already. He already knows my viewpoint towards that. I already have a $10000 system thread on this subforum. If anything making another thread with almost the same title to compete with it was asking for the feedback that resulted.

How things could have went was "why do you think those components would be better" And I could have responded with a very reasonable explanation based on my experience (which I did) and then he could have said "that makes a lot of sense, thanks for the recommendation". But I guess expecting that kind of exchange is out of line.

Umm, there is a disconnect between what you think your communicating and what is being understood by the other party. Your intention or at least your reasoned defence of your intentions are rational but your blind to the impression your rhetoric has had.

Normally this is most amusing as the guys are kind of deserving imo... But not in this case. I read your exchange before he buggered off and thought " this guys is going to tell you were to go" I was infact surprised he was as polite as he was but he has indeed left, shame.

Not too worry ;)

The problem is you were likely not following that I have been talking to Marty for a couple months now about the NUC based streamer. He was going to set it up at one point. He came here and expressed that the reason he recommended the $2200 Aurender over the NUC based setup was because of the difficulty of setting up my recommendation. As I have explained to him, it's not difficult at all and results in not only superior sound, but a better user interface.

And I have already discussed the amp situation in detail with him already. I've owned and built several of his recommended amp, as well as the NC-500 based amps. I was actually 1 of the first 5 people in the world to receive the NC400's when the first came out in Dec of 2011. So I'm in a pretty good position to judge the differences between them. I have an Hypex OEM account, and I've been building their amps for 9 years now.

You don't start a thread to purposely compete with my other thread, recommending against products he knows I believe in, if you're innocently not looking for any constructive criticism.

This is the problem with forums, unless you been following everything in detail for months, you don't realize that there was history before the thread started. And some of the things wouldn't have been said if it wasn't for this history of exchanges. Like for example, this thread wouldn't even exist in the first place had it not been for these previous exchanges.

I've shown a picture of the 1 system a few times already. The other setup is not ready for public disclosure.

Windows on the right, speakers stuck in corners... room for improvement until you hear the gear properly IMO.

I have set them up in a few rooms and it sounds excellent in this room as it is. Sure not the best setup possible, but sounds great either way. I think the drape really helps with the reflections. And the ports are plugged on the back so they are fine in the corners. Bass is clean and tight with no overhang, and the soundstage is absolutely pin point extending 10' past the rear wall. So can't complain.

I was up to speed with your communications with the guy. Never mind. I told you a while ago, you have to leave space for people to express them selfs. If you don't then your not talking, your not having a dialogue. They will feel aggrieved, yes you committed this sin with a guy who was honestly trying to engage you. You don't see it because you don't understand it. Oh well, I have to say you have never been like that with me, then again we don't have that kind of dialogue. When it comes to tech discussions your tact turns to evangelical preacher mode, it's all absolutes and statements with a big dollop of the dismissive about it. The guys been building amps since the 80s... He gave you respect, but got non back. He even asked for it in desperation but still got non. Bad times;)

Oh well, on the subject of YashN post about your room. who knows what music sounds like in there but I bet it's good. It's a nice looking room to listen to music in by my reckoning. Can't slag it off unless you been there dude.

Mike what did you plug the ports with? I had success with a bunch of drinking straws lol no really it's good. I use then in my sisters set up.

Hello all and good evening to you. This forum lost a good man with a very fine ear today. I am saddened by him leaving.

Unfortunately I don't have a selective honesty policy. I don't believe I was harsh in the least amount. I guess you need thicker skin than the hifiman nano diaphragm for Blizzard's forum . Marty will be fine.

Anyways, I just stuffed some old rags in the back which is actually acting more like an aperiodic flow resistive vent like the old Dynaudio variovent, Scan-speak aperiodic vent.

https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/flares/ports/vents/scanspeak-290001-aperiodic-vent-ssv/

This fools the drivers into thinking there's more cabinet volume and lower system Q by up to 20%.

Sounds great to me. The cabinets have a volume that works great for both vented and sealed with those drivers. The woofer cabinets are very deep so they can even go right against the wall and sound good with the vents plugged.
