Cosmic Journeys : How Large is the Universe?

It's r-e-a-l-l-y, r-e-a-l-l-y B-I-G! :D :D :D :D

Thanks for this informative and thought provoking video, as well as the others you have recently posted.

I love cosmology.

Fascinating video Steve, thanks. Time to ask the question: are we alone.

deepest belief .. We are not alone .. We can't be alone..IMO, the universe is too vast for the circumstances that brought us, not to have occurred somewhere else .. My questions: Will we meet them in our lifetime? Ever?

I haven't been keeping up with my Star Trek chronology, but weren't we given the technology for deep space travel and warp drive in the mid 2100's by a civilization that visited earth?

Alone? Not a chance.

We may be too lowly a crew for anyone capable of reaching us to expend the energy to do so.

In all likelihood, they probably have better places closer to their home to visit and explore.

Steve, just out of curiosity, did you get a license from Disney, Pixar and Buena Vista International to use the phrase "To Infinity and Beyond" in the forum name?!?!?!?! :p

I love the new forum.

Of course we are not alone :D Will we meet? If that means exchange information from afar, yes, sometime in the future. But actually interact up close? I can't see it with the distances involved and the speed limit imposed, unless we or they advance in the life suspension and reanimation department...

I did think of that after the fact. It can easily be removed if there is indeed an issue.

I was really just kidding.

An old Family Guy scene where Peter was asked the same question about recording an NFL game came to mind which was the motivation for the post!

I think that phrase has become as generic as calling all adhesive bandages "band-aids" or tissues, "kleenexes."

Okay...want to hurt the old brain?? Try comprehending the infinite with our finite minds.....you take off in a spaceship that can travel 1K times the speed of light.....100K times, 1MM times...you fly and you fly and you fly and it never ends...so, where does it go?? Start driving north, south, east, west....you will always come back to where you began...not so in the universe.....

If it does end (where the expansion is still working) what is on the other side of the space that has not been expanded into?? Heaven? Hell???? Can we truly comprehend nothingness???

Cheers,
