Daily aspirin might reduce cancer risk

Thanks Steve. I've been taking daily ASA for the last couple of years. I need to live longer so that I'll have more chance to enjoy my music and discover more.

^ Interesting Steve, I've been taking an aspirin a day for quite awhile now. Been working quite well for me in that regard, knock on wood, and it could be a double whammy!!

Steve - what about some reported cases of vascular events (mostly brain) since blood density is reduced by taking ASA for extended periods?

well there is no question that other factors need to be considered such as hypertension or vascular disease because having a stroke while on aspirin could be a big deal

This ran a couple of weeks ago:

It'll be interesting if any of the other cox-2 type blockers have the same activity. I remember seeing something a while back that alleve/naproxen had the same cardioprotective effects as aspirin too. I don't think it's true for the others like Motrin/Ibuprofen.

This or may not be good news. Please note the last paragraph in the attached.

I took daily aspirin for just over 40 years. No more. But that's just me!!

That's why the group at CCNY developed their aspirin analogs to avoid those side effects yet maintain the activity of the parent compound. Great chemistry!

Hi Chuck

Yes that's you but not everyone

we have had this discussion before. In life one must always weigh the benefits vs risks in deciding to take any medication . For me both as a physician knowing what I know and also as a patient taking 81 mg/day, I choose to take ASA but "that's just me" :)

Good, sagely advice as usual Steve! :)

What are the analogs called Myles? Hopefully there is no tube in them. :D [my question was serious.]
