Did did the stimulus work?

The Supreme Court pretty much made limits on spending unconstitutional. You would need a constitutional amendment. I'm not really in favor of that.

We usually agree on politics, Greg, but we'll have to disagree this time. I think it's time for a couple of constitutional amendments to return us to a representative democracy that represents the people instead of special (mostly corporate) interests. Of course it isn't going to happen, but a guy can dream.

I just don't favor constitutional amendments to overrule the Supreme Court. There is one obvious exception. That was so obvious the Supreme Court should have done it themselves.

It is a slippery slope.

I get that. Of course "what the Supreme Court should have done themselves," or shouldn't have done, is pretty open to interpretation. But most of the amendments after reformation were about election reform in one way or another, and we need more. We need them very badly. I would argue that the amendments needed are not "to overrule the supreme court," they are to restore representative democracy to representation of the electorate and if, in some cases, they must overrule the Supremes to accomplish that, so be it. I have great respect for the court, but they are Supreme, not infalible.

A cursory reading suggests that our current problems are structural. What of political and private corruption? Not to mention ideological roadblocks like the Tea Party and their Liberal counterpart.

Did you know who Roubini is? If not, you might look him up on Wikipedia. Guy knew what was coming and acccurately predicted it. I think they tried as much as possible to keep politics out of it. More a paper on what happened why it happened and how to make progress on getting out of it. Doubt if it will be enacted. Some people are so ideological that they just can't get away from that. Of course, I could be wrong:)

I'd say the stim had a better effect than the tax cuts.
