I have a Sony STR-V7 and a pair
Of large Advents. I’m streaming music from my I phone using an Audioengine B1 Bluetooth receiver. I’m getting some distortion on low end especially when loudness switch is engaged. I’ve checked the foam on speakers and all is good. Had Sony checked and tuned in NC by Jason Kritz of A Joyful Noise. Any ideas?

Try the speakers with any other amplifier if you can. Try to narrow down the issue as much as you can. Can you try to describe the distortion? How does it sound?

Your Sony STR I belive had in input sensitivity of less than 200mV, which was pretty common for that time.

When CD's came out the defacto redbook standard became 2V-rms.

Your distortion problem could be as simple as the audioengine supplying enough signal to overload the front end of the Sony. A set of Harrison Labs (or similar) RCA in-line attenuators will tell the tail for very little $
