my wife and I just finished this 8 part docudrama reflecting the oxycontin opioid crisis and Purdue Pharma and the ultimate $4.6B fine this private family owned company had to pay
This is a riveting tale and often times shocking to watch. It is centered around Virginia country doctor Finnix who, along with s many of his patients became addicted to this drug and what they had to endure in order to kick the habit. Sadly there were over 400,000 deaths from Oxycontin as Purdue Pharma and its board tried to have its pharmaceutical reps perpetuate lies on the doctors to get them prescribing the medicine. It showed how a 10 mg tablet soon was replaced. by a 20 mg, then a 40 mg , then an 80 mg and ultimately a 160 mg dose. Addicted people were taking as much as 800 mg/day of oxycontin and many died of overdose.

This is a must watch series and Michael Keaton won the SAG Award for his role. His role was especially meaningful to himself as he dedicated his award to his nephew who died of addiction

Each episode runs about an hour but you will be riveted to the screen. Directed by Barry Levinson, this series is masterful and not to be missed

I agree , one of the best series from last year. Fine acting all around. Frustrating to watch at times.

Steve, did you ever read "Dreamland" by Sam Quinones? Really excellent book about the causes opiate epidemic. Highly recommended. Sadly our profession was a major factor :(
