Lee, I have information that the 96/24 are true blue. The 96/24 version was a separate tape capture, not a downfold of the 192/18.

Has anyone actually analyzed and compared the 24/192 and 24/96 of the same song off the same album from an Eagles HDtracks download to see once and for all whether or not the 24/192 is truly 18 bit and whether or not the 24/96 was a separate transfer and is truly 24 bit?

Posted on-line interviews with the mastering engineer. I'm not sure they are still easily found, but you can certainly give it a shot.
