Emm labs DA2 v2 upgrade

Are you sure its the DAC. and not the fact the DAC is now so resolving it allows you to hear environmental factors like spurious RF interference, temporary powerline noise e.t.c?

Hi, yes, I am sure. This is not the only time that it happened. Besides, I am using Shunyata power conditioner and I know my sound system very well. By the way, my sound system is always very revealing.

Just did the update.
Mine says it's v4.4.58

With the new PSU I don'y doubt it sounds fabulous. Unfortunate about how hard it is to SACD capability these days.
Hi, for lover of classical music, there are plenty of SACDs available online to purchase.

I wonder if the TXi and TX2 are the same from the perspective of CD playback. If the TX2 is still available for purchase, would it be a better choice? A comparison is needed.

Hi Guys,

My V3 has about 1800 hours of running-in. The sound has stabilized. In comparison to the V2, the V3 has taken a giant leap in sound quality. A case in point: Before the upgrade, I have relegated this album (The Prince Consort Songs by Brahms and Stephen Hough Linn Records CKD 382 SACD) to the so-so sound quality category. However, today, I gave it a relisten and I was pleasantly surprised. As I wrote in another thread, I now find this album extremely lifelike in sound quality! Dynamics can be startling. The piano sparklers and sings (e.g., Hough: Other Love Songs VII. The Colour of His Hair). Articulations are excellent. The air/space and separation between instruments/voices are now great. The transient respond is extremely fast.

Hi All,

I'm new here and have really enjoyed reading through this thread. I have had a Meitner MA3 for 3 years and am considering the jump to a DV2i.
Has anyone had the chance to compare the MA3i to DV2i? I get the feeling the new power supply will be a big factor here and no doubt its better but by how much?

Thanks

Byron.

I spent half a day comparing the MA3i vs DV2 v2 using the USB in a good enough system; Luxman NT-07 streamer, Luxman C-10X & M-10X with Magico M2 speakers and would prefer the MA3i anytime. The DV2 V3 may be a different story but at double the cost of the MA3i.

Afaik, @Genesis168 is the only one (other than dealers) I know of that owns and has listened to both the MA3i and DA2i so you might want to PM him. The DA2i / DV2i will be better than the MA3i but there will be diminishing returns. It will not be 3x improvement of the cost difference between the units.

If you do not require streaming, you may want to consider the DV2 V3 as a (slightly ) more cost effective solution.

Thanks, tbh until I read this thread I didn't realise there had been so many versions of the DV2. It seems that the V3 and I versions seem like real step changes. I did notice that @Genesis168 had both models and hoped he may share some insight but the fact he owns both models probably speaks for itself. Kudos to Emm Labs for creating both.

V3 is DV2i without streaming, and so is basically a total new DAC instead of an incremental change. I found that the "i" versions are a very significant improvement on things that really matter including timing, punch/energy, noise, and imaging. They literally fixed every sonic caveat I had about the DA2 V2.

I have not directly compared the MA3i to a DA2v2 but I have a gut feeling the MA3i would sound better given the new better isolated usb input, DAC, clock and much improved analog output stage.

Regarding the comparison between the MA3i vs the DA2i……. The DA2i wins hands down “IF” your system is resolving enough. For most people the MA3i is plenty.

Hi Ian, does the V3 have the latest DAC circuit and analogue output?
