Emotiva Amps - Are they the real thing?

Hey John, how are you my friend?

I've seen better days myself, but I'm doin' just fine. :) ...I won't tell you everything because it would take a book lol.

You know John, we're talkin' 'bout Emotiva amps here, so I know about them as I own two of them myself.
And I used to own a Bryston 4B before. The XPA-2 doesn't give anything to the 4B; at least not from my recollection.

Try one yourself, you'll see; instead of reading all the praised reviews from all over (Audioholics, Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity, Emotiva Lounge, AVS Forum, your own Blu-ray Forum, etc.). :)

John, I'm familar a bit with your setup, and you should try two Emotiva UPA-1 monoblock amps. :)

* Just quick news: I'm still mourning my Dad's passing away, struggling with people who see life as a material world, and by the way, Blu Titan (Tony, the super mod) from Blu-ray Forum, made a huge mistake about me. But like anything else in life, "all things must pass" - George Harrison

Hi Bob,

Sorry to hear about your Dad, but I'm with you. It'll only be 2 years this coming Halloween that my Dad passed away, and I think of him often.

At this moment in time I have no idea what direction in terms of gear I will be considering. I've been seriously contemplating a good tube IA, and specifically the ARC VSi60. If I go seperates, the ARC SP17 preamp holds a lot of interest for me as it has a solid built-in phonostage and 102-step attenuation (up from 60-step). And since I listen at fairly low volumes this would be a great feature for me as I can more accurately control the volume level.

To save well over $1,000 (if not $1,500) I could go all out and purchase 2 XPA-1's, as opposed to a single power amp from ARC or others in that space. This is certainly food for thought, but I'm not there yet. Heck, if I can find a deal on a great SPEC-4 Power Amp to match my IA, I could go that route as well. It's going to be an interesting 2012!

Hi Bob,

Like John, I am very sorry to hear about your Dad. Also, like John, I too can empathize since my Dad passed away now 3 1/2 years ago and I probably think of him almost every day. If I can be of any comfort or support do not hesitate to let me know.

Thank you John and Rich for the supportive thought.

I have two brothers and two sisters plus a mother right now, and we are close as never.
Family is true power. ...So is my daughter and son.

Emotiva is also a power family. :)

Frank, Thank you.

And know that you bring a lot to the table here, and no matter what, you are strong and true, and never, and I mean never, from the very deepest bottom of my heart, I would in any way not love and respect all the people on this planet.
I am very sensitive to judgements because nothing is absolute in this world of ours.
All we believe is free for each one of us, and no one can judge the validity of our own life.
Only by true respect and openness to others, ideas, ideologies, philosophies, constantly developing sciences, and all that Jazz, that we can truly advance positively.

Yesterday I felt the pain, and today even more...

Family, friends, society is us, you, me, him, her, them; and if we can live together in harmony, and without trying to impose our own laws, or religions, or conventions, or beliefs; then we're on the right track to share some common goals.

Seeing clearly is listening with openness, without ever judging.

Peace my brother,
Bob

My condolences. My father passed away 23 years ago an I would think that not a day passes that I don't think of him ... He was also a music lover and an audiophile before the times...
I agree with you on that ..

By the way, the Emotiva XPA-5: $899 MSRP $$$ Multichannel Amplifier was reviewed in October's 2011 issue of Stereophile by Kalman Rubinson.

* He loved it; for its generous power, effortlessness, build quality, great value, and all that Jazz... :)
-> Kal did compare it to his own long-term multi-channel reference amp, the Bryston 9B-SST: $7,295 MSRP *

*** Would have been cool to have some measurements to confirm what he heard, but perhaps another time from another Emo amp,
maybe the XPA-2 Stereo Amp, or the XPA-1 Monoblock amp? :)

=> $$$ in red means that you can get that amp for less, like $799 (On Sale),
and even $699 (B-stock: with the same full 5-year warranty and perfect operation). :)
{Fully Transferrable Warranty by the way.}
...And of course there is also Emotiva Emporium, Audiogon, eBay, and all that Blues...

So, here you have it! Emotiva amps (and other Emotiva products), are not only reviewed by professional reviewers from Audioholics, Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity, but also from Stereophile, plus other pro reviewers from other pro audio mags... The Absolute Sound?
And without mentioning the several well calibrated and experienced owners.

>> Very appropriate to have Emotiva Amps right here in these forums from What's Best! :)
...Indeed, Best Performance/Value ratio.

I forgot, the Emo amps come with Free Shipping. :) ...And very well packaged.

P.S. I don't work for Emotiva or any other Audio companies, I just make my own mind on who I choose to do business with, that is all.
I just mind my own business. :)

You beat me to it! But wouldn't have if I hadn't stayed late at work. :) Kal did apparently like the XPA5. He's a regular contributor here and might stop in this thread and discuss his views a bit more.

Of course I am also very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Mine passed away 30 years ago when I was 23. It still hurts to this very day.

My condolences as well, Bob. My dad, at 93, is still with us. But we lost mom a few years ago. It'll be four years on Christmas eve. I miss her.

Tim

You guys are all human, I love you all! :)

Gives a nice emotional touch in this Emotiva thread. :)

They made three of them. Just the teeth alone weighted 4,000 pounds.
Largest 'shovel' ever made at that time in Canada.

I have Owned a XPA-3 for just over a year now and when i bought it it was because i was going to 4ohm speakers for the front 3 speakers asd i was happy with the SQ.

Since then i have changed direction listening to more 2channel and after buying the Kudos speakers , i was still very happy with the sound of the amplifier and i have had my dealer over who had never heard of Emotiva and thought the amp sounded like it was worth 2000 .

I have since tried a Sim Audio Celeste 4070SE which was $2000 when it was new and it does sound better as it should .

So i am selling my XPA-3 to pay for the Celeste .

Now i am tweaking with interconnects and power cables and that is a whole different story as just because the IC is expensive it does not mean that it will work with your system as i have found out with a friend on mine demoing different cables to see what worked best on each piece of equipment .

Not accessible at 4:33...probably maintenance.
