Horizon launch

First of all let me applaud Steve's decision to go without subs. That is slightly hypocritical. Let me explain. Of your amp is sending true sub signal 20 30hz your speaker is trying to handle them. If it's not able then that's distortion.
Now that they are I never warmed up to the jl subs. To me they seemed more appropriate for ho.e theater. Noo offense I tended

I have never been a big Wilson fan other theirfell into dosfavor snobbish attitude and exorbitant pricing I am hard pressed to find fault. They are truly a transpare.t device.
SET SINGLED DIRECT HEATEDTRIODES fell into disfavor with the advent of the low efficiency acoustic suspension speaker. Your choice being limited to high efficiency horns.
No doubtthe LAMM ML3 ability to squeeze out 32 watts is a Herculean effort.
To me direct treated triodes are the holy grail. I suspect Steve uses them in zero feedback. When no music is playing you can hear a little noise if you put ypi ear closely to the speaker.
Maybe one day I will get back to hear the techdas. It no doubt is on a par with the other components. It could be Steve will be tempted by the WAMM. Oh well it is fun to spend other peoples money. I will stop now

Now that the dust has settled I feel it is ok to say this. The Pacifoc would be my choice of the Lamp lineup that I have heard.
The choice would based on type of music and the systems ability to extract the difference between the Pacific and the Horizon.

This in all likelihood is why the Pacific remains in production as the Lampizator TOTL DHT DAC. The Pacific is indeed a wonderful DAC but in terms of SQ the Horizon lights up my ears. I have never heard a DAC as natural sounding as the Horizon

I was more than happy with the Pacific and contemplated many times about just keeping it thinking how much better can it get . The Pacfic could be an end game for most , just avoid listening to the Horizon. It's really hard to judge a DAC in somone else's system, but by Steve having Pacfic and Horizon on his system for the demo it was a win win . I can't wait till others receive their horizon and experience it first hand .

Horizon- What is the best version of itself?
Conceding that the Hprozpn is a world class contender for the best dac
Given today's prices and the liberal trade up policy it is not only a relative bargain. By allowing trade ins it has a buit in hedge against obsolescence.
A shoot out against the contender i fpr best dac is unlikely. The makers of the true contenders would have to be willing ro provide free samples and live with the consequences. It could be that the owmers of su h units could get together for a competition. Who knows.
Tube rolling
Choice of stock tubes was based on more than sound. The need for consistency and availability were no doubt relavent factors. I participated in some limited tube rolling. What the audience liked best was not the stock tube. Of course best is an absolute. Like is a preference.
I think it may never be resolved whether the Horozon is the absolute best
It can however be the best version of otself.
