I thought the NSA thing was going to improve, not go backward!

I'm sure there are very competent program managers within federal government agencies that could have pulled this off (IRS comes to mind).
They are probably very solid, and the federal healthcare folks have zero experience managing a project of this size and complexity.

Apple, IBM, Microsoft's security programmers?

* It is truly sad to hear/read all the people's dilemmas about this total 'hellth' fiasco!
...And the uncovered truth behind Obama's own words of reassurance (lies) from the past.
And about the NSA as well.

Even under-covered spies and liars eventually get uncovered.

And the most trustworthy and truthful people are so honest, even when they lie.

If we can get all the politicians, spooks, operatives, etc. too tap my phone and just listen for a month the problem will be solved.
They will all die from boredom.

I think I should make my position clear. I read all these posts about out lives being ruined, and the posts are preaching to the choir [in this case choir = zz].
This B.S. has been rampant in my mind for 6 decades.

And how about this "redistribution of wealth, income, etc. WELL, I never had any $ distributed to me. I have worked 80 - 100 hours per week most of my life.
So I believe these destroyers and their fancy "redistribute" should redistribute their personal body parts in a "nice" military situation.

Best to you,
zz.

I would not even want to start with my knowledge of the coming ripoffs.

Do they spy on the large banks and their financial advisers/administrators/brokers/directors?

The NYSE and the NASDAQ; do they spy on the people who influence (the big shots) the overall financial markets direction?

The government, and their elite; the senators, the governors, the congress, the president, the adjoint representative staff, the counselors, first advisers, decision makers, ...; do they spy on them too?

Do they spy on the big corporations who steal from the exploitation of the middle classes and the poor and the handicapped and the sick and the unfortunate ones?

Do they spy on the big polluters of our planet?

Do they spy too on the dysfunctional machine who runs America and its people? ...At the lower levels of our societies.

The NSA; a good thing, or a bad thing, for everyone?

"Banned" - Printed under the NorthStar heading.
Can someone explain???

But, in the meantime I will give my opinions on his questions.
The people in the TRUE controlling positions know what NOT to say, and/or when & where to say it.
All communications possible [99.999%] are tapped into by the NSA computers - looking for combinations of words, sequences, etc.
Big Brother is here to stay sitting on top of us [he weighs a lot] until a massive GMO or viral disaster wipes out 99% of humans. Mother Nature will probably utter a HUGE sigh of RELIEF!!!

Violation of the Terms of Service here at the WBF. Let's please stay on topic.

I have not responded to Amir's original post due to lack of appropriate words. Well, someone at Google just came to my rescue http://www.reuters.com/article/2013...20131106?feedType=RSS&feedName=technologyNews and I quote:

A pair of Google Inc employees involved with the internet company's security systems have publicly lashed out at the National Security Agency, with one of the employees accusing the organization of subverting the law by intercepting communications on cables linking Google's various data centers.

Nobody at the U.S. National Security Agency or the British intelligence agency "will ever stand before a judge and answer for this industrial-scale subversion of the judicial process," wrote Mike Hearn, an engineer at Google, on his personal Google+ page on Tuesday.

Hearn said he was issuing a "giant **** you to the people who made these slides," referring to the illustrations in the leaked documents that depicted how the NSA was able to access the data.

PS: The asterisks are WBF's software attempt at censorship, not my attempt at being polite or sensitive.

Good to see Google stomp its feet. I imagine they have or will shortly encrypt their data across those links.

That was a good read. Didn't realize quantum encryption had become a commercial product already.

13,000 square mile area with no Cell Phone service and no WiFi allowed. It is against the law, and enforced.
This is an area in West Virginia dotted with huge and very large radio telescopes.
They say it is for science, and they say the government is honest.
OH, and there are lots of military and spooky looking people, and it is close to .... well you know the places.

Its really "quasi" quantum encryption as it relies on the easier implementation to date; changes in photon state when they are studied so its primary purpose is that if anyone intercepts the data is corrupted instantly and alarm can be triggered.
I remember this product back then and it was one a big consideration for banks amongst other businesses; was roughly £1.2m back then per transmission device (so 2 for point-to-point) but that is not bad price to know if data is intercepted and cannot be copied.

True quantum encryption is still several years off (was something I followed closely when in a large tech manufacturer and back in 2005 there were several companies that hi-tech angel investors were keeping a very close eye on; and even then I doubt it will be released that quickly as the various militaries will sign it up exclusively.
Sadly well out of that area now but even some of the main "PC-server" tech known big boys were quite away along.

Amir, meant to ask.
How long do NDA contracts usually last for?
Asking you as I am pretty sure you are also signed under a crud load and also probably involved in the drafting of some when at Microsoft.
Thanks

Ah, sounds like Quantum Key Exchange. If so, the snooping detection is for the key and not the data. But that is all you need anyway. As you say, this is not really quantum cryptography. Using entangled particles which is true Quantum Cryptography one can send data that magically appears at the other end. By looking at one particle's "spin" one can cause its sister particle to have high probability of being the other way. The hyped application for this is teleportation but if ever harnessed, could allow very secure and ultrafast communication.

Indeed. I have been party to more non-disclosure agreements than I can count. The duration is one of the top things that is usually negotiated. The party with the info usually asks for 5 years or so. The party receiving it will try to get it down to usually 2-3 years. There is also a universal "out." It says that if the information was already public or becomes public, then the NDA obligation goes away. So should someone else publicize the same, you don't have to wait that period. Some agreements also have a "residual" clause that says if you teach me something, I may use it to build other things as there is no way to erase that from my memory. It is a hard thing to get from the party giving you the confidential info but is there often. This wouldn't give you the ticket to disclose it but rather, will enable you to implement what you remember implicitly in what you produce.

Thanks Amir.
Yeah totally agree the excitement for me is entanglement related comms/subspace transmissions.
That and true quantum processing-algorithm encryptions, that is what scares the various military/intelligence depts as it should be possible to break any telecomms encryption in near real-time if the hardware is smartly deployed; and current worry is historically stored intercepted encrypted comms that can be decrypted with the first-second generation quantum cryptography computers (makes distributed quantum encryption a serious money spinner for protection at that point).
But that development is like a rainbow, seems so close but always just out of reach :)

Ooh the joys of Star Trek coming to life :)
Cheers
