Just saw this film with my wife this afternon. As a prequel going back to 2019 it was my pick for Best Actor as Joaquin Phoenix played an epic role. We were eager to see this sequel and really knew nothing about it. Our daughter saw it last night. She loved the original and told my wife and I not to go as it is 2 1/4 hours out of one's life

Wel it's over 90 degrees here in SoCal once again so we wanted to stay cool in the comfort of the movie theater and ventured out. On the way we saw that Rotten Tomatoes hated it and MRQE.com gave it a 53 so we were expecting a nightmare

Once again this was the story of Arthur Dent and as we watched his depravity evolve in the original movie as he became the Joker in Gotham City, this movie is one that you'll eith hate or love.....there is no inbetween

The movie starts of with a cartoon about the Joker only to realize that this is the start of the movie. It is now 5 years later and Arthur Fleck is the Insane Ward of Gotham Prison as he is to be tried for the murder of 5 people (as seen in the first film)

Lady Gaga stars as Arthur Dent's lover who enlightens him not only to love but so also tomusic which has eluded him his entire life.

Joaquin Phoenix must hav lost 100 pounds for this role as he was truly emaciated but waht a friggin' actor he is. Once again he is a chameleon as he did not play Arthur Fleck but WAS Arthur Fleck.

Forget about prior Batman movies with the Jojer. This was a mopvie of an insane man with a dual(split) personality and we are pulled into his depraved world. Lady Gaga and the music was fantastic. He sang all the songs as did she. People are incensed by this film, saying there was too much singing and dancing but truly, Tod Phillips puts us into his world and for just over 2 hours I was mesmerized. Peopl are going to say what was I drinking or smoking but my wife evn thought this film was superb. Forgt aboput The Joker and think only of Arhtur Fleck and you will be taken further down that hole of depravity as you watch him devolve during his trial in Gotham. The ending (not to give anytrhng away) is truly something

This is not a film for everyone. If youre looking for a Batman and Robin , Gothamm City flick, this one aint for the common person or the meek at heart Watching his acting, I can honestly sday that I havent seen better as an Actor in the leading role. He should be nominated for an Oscar and IMO can easily win which would be a first to win for both the original film and the sequel

Again this is just the opinion of my wife and I .....and we are clearly in the minority and Im certain those who see the film and read my post will think I'm as crazy as Arthur Fleck but as a role in acting, we haven't seen better this year

Of course as the sayng goes, YMMV and proceed at your own peril

Synopsis
While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur Fleck not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that's always been inside him.

We also saw this yesterday. Perhaps there is is something in German, but I am unaware of anything in the English language that can adequately convey the spectacular craptitude of this movie.

See the fascinating article in the WSJ (yesterday, I believe) describing the extensive process used to make Phoenix appear as he does. The method of creating the prosthetics and the hours it takes to apply is remarkable.

I saw it Saturday. We were all disappointed!! His acting a 10, his singing voice a hard 3. Is it really acting to do that to yourself for a role?

I hear you. What did you think of his acting. Forget the story.can you name an actor this year in a leading role whom you felt to be your choice for Oscar.
I want to see Jude Law in The Order.

I can't disagree, but name me one actor in a movie this year that stands out in your mnd better than Joaquin Phoenix in this role

I am not a bettor but there is no way Phoenix will win a 2nd oscar for playing the same character. It just doesn't happen. Plus, it is rare for a movie which has gotten really bad reviews to produce an academy award winner (other than for song, maybe).

I haven’t seen it in a while but I do know that the critics liked it. It wasn’t as well received by the public but they don’t get any votes.

As I said, it is rare, but not impossible.
