Dana Olson graciously assisted me with the measurement of my newly acquired KEF KC92 subwoofer and Magnepan 3.7i speakers. I had adjusted by ear and arrived at a balance with the hinge at just under 80Hz and volume at about noon on the dial. The adjustment for room location was set to In-Room on the sub as opposed to a corner, along a wall, or in a cabinet. The measurement showed a more than reasonable integration of sub and Maggies, so much so that I chose to forego further adjustments until I have the means in place to do my own assessment. First up was Ganzalo Rubalcaba, Oren. The timbre of the piano improved, expanded. This surprised me. Then we played Monterey Quartet’s live recording of Minotaur, where the bass drum clearly caused the snare to rattle, underpinning the proceedings authoritatively. Great thrum throughout. Later I played the famous Decca/London Three Cornered Hat from LP. Tremendous support for the drum and basses, bettering previous hearings here.
Most pleased thus far.
