They are different devices. The first difference is that the m1000 is a pre made when Kondo was still alive, the mk2 is later. my M1000 had been completed in December 2005 (like my gakuohs) a few days before Kondo died. Another difference is that the M1000, in addition to the normal output, had two separate "high grade" outputs to convey the low and medium / high frequencies, essentially a high pass and a low pass centered at 500hz. The two outputs could be coupled with a special cable (that I still own) called "duet line".

I use GE 211, tried RCA and think RCA was too smooth making the music losing its texture. Telefunken on the rest of the tubes. I tube rolled right outta the gate, I am now actually curious to try the Shuguang that came stock.

I agree with User211, I use Amperex 211 “brass base” from ‘40s, make a huge difference.

I heard about it, still hunting for a pair of Amperex, so far no luck while GE and RCA are plentiful. Having said that, f price is exorbitant I’d rather try my luck on the new Elrog.

Dears. Just few days ago I have received an ANUK M6 Phono with Balance and it caused me a great impact. Very soon I will receive a pair of Kegon Balancead 300B PSE from ANUK. They recommended me M8 or M9 to get all potential of Kegon Balance. Anybody has experience with ANUK Kegon? I will appreciate some comment.

have you ever tried the Amperex VT4B instead VT 4C? I read they are older and rarer then Vt4c, pre WWII (‘30) and have a little rating difference. Do you think they are plug’n play substitute for a pair of Amperex Vt4c brass base (‘40 years) on Ongaku?

I expect they'll work they have the same heater ratings and pin out. That's pretty important. They look close enough elsewhere too as far as I can see.

I can't see an Ongaku going up in flames with them but if one does don't blame me!

The Vt4b is substantially a 211d (like we 211d, same specification). The principal difference I read is 75watt max dissipation instead 100watt max for the vt4c. I don’t know if this implies difference in power output or not. My question: is vt4c better then vt4b (as successor) or not?

Assuming you mean in terms of sound quality I would guess it's about the same because the construction looks about the same.

I stress that is a guess, though. They might be different in some adverse or superior way WRT SQ.

I have seven Amperex 211s that are marked differently and indeed look different in terms of construction but all work and all sound excellent and the same as far as I can tell.

None are VT4B, though. They did some HF120 and HF140 marked tubes as well but I have hardly ever seen them for sale.

Plate dissipation is the amount of heat the valve can emit in wasted heat without breaking or suffering adverse performance.

I have owned an used two Ongakus first one was from 1998 u guess and second was from some years later and that was a "Ongaku Le" was a way more expensief the chassis was also little longer and also some kgs heavier the volume attenuator was also not the same a non LE Ongaku was like the M1000 preamp...

I liked both Ongakus very much its a piece of art that will always remains in the history of high-end for me the only reason that i didn't keep them is the limitation of speaker choice.Btw i never used preamp whit both but friends of me that used preamp where always choosing whit preamp.

May I know more details of the Ongaku SE please? I heard some said the latest Ongaku has already included many of the SE features including the output transformers.

is there any difference between the Ongaku with the grey transformer enclosure and the black one?

The Ongaku SE i think is a special Edition made in 8/10 and no more

The new Ongaku is same like last of some tears ago,only difference is power transformer,the old grey was from Tango,but now Tango stop production and the new black is made by Kondo and the new is little more transparent than the model with grey trans

actually only 5 of them ever made. I listened to regular Ongaku’s and two Special Editions several times and I can definitely say that Ongaku Special Edition is much better than the regular one. SE has bigger transformers a specially made attenuator and a little bit different internal circuits. here is one out of five SE Ongaku’s ever made.

unfortunately new Ongaku doesn’t have Special Edition’s features. I had a chance to examine inside out the new, the old and special editions. I think the most important difference is the volume pod and absence of balance pod. here is special edition’s volume pod. it’s actually an attenuator.
