Lampizator Big 7

Here is the message I sent to Lukasz after having received my big 7 with duelund caps( hope Lukasz has nothing against revealing it)
" pls don't hurt your baby and do not install ever jupiter caps, only duelund:)"
Lukasz installed duelund I had in my dsd dac so fully burned .

If that is true, I wonder why the Top of the Line Golden Gate DAC uses Jupiter caps and Duelund caps.
Maybe they are saving the Jupiters for the GG. The new Lampizator web site says:

"Output capacitors are the huge Jupiter Copper 1uF caps, bypassed by Duelund Pure Silver caps. Yes, a hybrid, best of both worlds, supposedly beating even pure silver one-cap solution.
Digital input SPDIF capacitor is Jupiter Wax Copper 100nF."

I believe the final result depends very much on integration with the specific setup and personal taste. Before B7 I have been using for one year the dsd dac with duelunds and I liked the timbre very much. For my ears jupiters give very precise and detailed sound but lacking warmth and timbre esp. with upper bass / lower midrange. And with horns that is just too "offensive" for my taste.

P.S I received the message from Lukasz that he has initially installed in my big 7 Jupiter AM ( tin foil ) , not copper ones that are standard in GG. Moreover , he changed some filters in dsd board because he likes faster and less dark sound . He says Jupiter copper caps have nothing to do with Jupiter AM which I had. Just for the clarification.

The 101d WE replicas are more expensive and its HIS taste, anybody else could have their preference. He sends units with stock tubes, as he must believe that the quality will stand on its own.
It seems you are right. In Munich the presentation was done with the 101D.
Ordered a pair yesterday.

Just connected Big 7 and started to play. Pcm plays ok. But no sound on DSD. I am using Aurender N100. To check if the problem was the streamer, I connected a MacBook Pro with Audirvana and tryed DSD. No sound. Of course I push the front button on the B7 that says DSD.
Any help on this?

João,
I'd love to get your input on it once you have it up and running.

Hi Andre,

I'll be glad to. Everything but the speakers are new, so many hours of burn in will be needed. Anyway, it is just very good now. I am enjoying even playing just pcm.

Joao,

Roch (EL Corso) from Compaudiophile has the B7 and is in Brazil too. Perhaps he can help you troubleshoot? Do you have the volume control? If not, is there a PCM/DSD toggle switch?

Yes, Wisnon, there is a front button to switch between pcm and dsd. If I push it I believe dsd is on, so no sound. Released pcm plays fine.

Thanks João,
Is your system on your profile up to date? I thought that you were already using Audiopax. Is the Lampizator in place of the MPD-3?

Andre, I bought the new Maggiore L50 and M50. Arrived today. And I have and Aurender N100 to the Big7. All new, just my Tidal Piano Ceras are the same, but the Contriva G2 is on its way.

OT:
congrats, João. I didn't even know that the 50 line existed. and the Contriva??? I've always been curious about Tidal. Hope to have a chance to listen to their entry level speakers. What's the main difference between the Cera and Diacera?

Andre, the Diaceras have Diamond tweeters. In fact all the lines have diamond tweeters now.

You have to listen/ read about the new Maggiore. Half the power of the original M100, but now more refined and with the new preamp L50.

In the US our friends Fabio Storelli and Alexandre Siufy opened Alma Audio in San Diego. They sell Audiopax gear.

Hi Joao, if it is all new you will have to break it in by running it continuously for a few weeks before you can judge. The caps on the Lampi should take 200 hours to burn in, not to mention the rest of your gear. Also DSD and PCM circuits are separate. Did you try pressing 2 on the remote, that might get you DSD

Yes, all is playing directly since yesterday and will play for at least 500h. And when the new speakers arrive it will be more 500h to complete burn in for them.

My B7 is dac only. No remote, just a front button to switch between pcm and dsd.

There was a disconnected wire on the DSD board.
Lukasz supported pretty much by phone and email and I got someone just to make the solder. DSD is working now.

With so many people praising the Lampi, can someone with some knowledge summarize for me as I find Lukaz's site a little confusing. Is the GG a Lampi 7 with all options included and hand selected best parts or are there are things that can be added? I see on his site that it is 18K with a 256 DSD engine and PCM engine or DSD only engine.

From what I gather from what I have read here and elsewhere it seems that most of you are converting all your PCM to DSD to the Lampi? Is that correct? Any comments regarding PCM playback on the Lampi GG versus competitors?

Thanks in advance

Without looking to provoke a course reply.
I thought you were very happy with your Hugo ? I doubt it will seem much better to you.
Lol.
But on a honest note. It is all out hand picked best parts. But it does have some options to ask for. Winson or Fred or rob should bounce in. As for the up sampling it's dsd is very magical but I do like PCM as it is. So it's just not for me. It does rival our msb in both and far cheaper and for me it's dsd is just better
It could be the tubes but it is better. And being able to roll tubes makes it more synergistic with many more systems.
His website is confusing a bit though. On audio shark there is some reviews of them.
I have a frind here in NYC that traded up from the B 7 to GG he is very happy and has great ears and a very transparent system that I have heard and liked a lot.

The HUGO is a keeper for me. Just looking at options pertaining to upgrading IV to V, The Select versus something like a GG or DAVE when the dust settles and pocketing cash.

So you are using the Lampi PCM straight without any DSD conversion. And in your opinion the PCM on the Lampi without conversion is as good or better than the MSB?

Thanks

Priaptor,

We currently have the MSB SELECT in our store, one of 3 out there. If you can swing it, it's by far the best digital we've ever heard. It doesn't shock with detail, but goes all out with neutrality, very natural sound, and lifelike presence. The MSB rep (Vince) uses a Harry Connick Jr. track as his reference, and his voice was so real it was uncanny! I was literally grinning like a schoolboy :)

Cheers,
alex

With pcm it's on par in dsd it's better
How and why
In over all details the msb does best it but only in low level quite passages
You own one during quit passages most Dacs give details but the msb aloows us to hear things with greater recognition
This is where the lamp looses
But in every other way it's just more musical
No doubt weather is simple.or complex
I do feel the pcm is about the same but i like the lampi more due to its tube rolling so as i own a few systems it's much more tunible to reach each system .
It's sound is more like music less mechanical in way
The lampi is also dead quite like the msb but indo feel as i stated it does do well at quite passages
For those who love up sampling the only up sample i like is the msb . No offline beats for me . Hope this helps as the GG is great the B7 is something you could try to audition and go from there .
