For a few years now, I have been putting together the "vintage system" for my old age which has arrived faster then I thought. I
did my research for vintage speakers and intigrated tube amplifiers and then I made my choices, then bought them and
had the required restorations done by qualified techs. i am now at the point were I need to start researching and matching
cartridges for the amplifier and the turntables to get the best sound possible from the equipment.
While it was not that difficult for me to chose amplification and speakers that compliment each other, choosing a cartridge
that does match requires a lot of experience that I do not have, so any advice and knowledge anybody is willing to share is appreciated.
The amplifier is a fully restored to spec. Sansui AU-111, with NOS, Sansui A-603 and A-604 phono input transformers. The amp allows
a TT with a MM cartridge and a TT with a MC cartridge to be plugged into the amp at the same time and by swapping the transformers
and changing between phono 1 and phono 2 with the fuction switch use either the MM cartridge or the MC cartridge
I have choosen two different turn tables for the system and have the first one in use now, it is a JE Michell Focus One with upgraded feet
and a SME 3009 S3 with oil trough and paddles and has the wiring upgrade by Alfred Kayser done for a previous owner.
The second machine will be a JE Michell Reference Orbe, yet to be purchased and a Grado Signature Labratory Standard
tonearm which I have.
