Bob Carver Vacuum Tube Company has officially been acquired by Jade Design (Emotiva).

They are now selling some products direct.

The Black Magic VTA120 20 wpc (40 wpc in mono block configuration) EL84M amp I reviewed for Tone Audio Issue 53
is now.....$1690. It used to be $2400 through dealers and Music Direct.

Folks, in my humble opinion, this is the steal of the decade. This combined with the Kef LS50
would be a ridiculous combo for around $3000.

Good luck with that Emotiva is the worst company I have ever dealt with!

Care to elaborate as to why you think that?

Certainly.

Emotiva's target customer is the first time separates buyer looking for something cheap and usually for HT purposes. They are not interested in high end tube amps nor are they likely to have the resources to purchase one. The purchase of Carver doesn't fit Emotiva's customer base. On the other hand, the folks that have or have considered purchasing Carver tube gear are likely to be put off being associated with what is generally thought of as an entry level company. The natural tendency would be to believe the Carver products are not going to be the same quality as before regardless if that is true or not. Undoubtedly, that will cost them business.

On a side note, I have often heard Emotiva owners state that their amps, etc. are as good as other well known reference products. Yet, when Emotiva purchased Carver the same folks were saying that Carver will help improve the Emotiva products, indicating that they really weren't all they were cracked up to be in the first place. No kidding.

Thanks for a well-thought out reply, I appreciate it. I'm not sure however that I can agree with you on how "cheap" the Emotiva product line is. Several friends of mine own and have owned their products and seem to be quite happy with the performance. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of satisfied customers so they can't all be wrong. Having said that, my only concern with Emotiva is possibly the longetivity of the units. We all know that ARC, McIntosh, Bryston, et al can and do perform outstandingly well after decades, but will Emotiva?

Generally speaking I think Emotiva is a worthy product for those that don't want to spend thousands of dollars or can't afford to go that route. And their customers certainly agree.
