Hello. I recently purchased a Melco S100/2 and was curious about what owners of this switch have experimented with, in terms of network connectivity options.
I have a Lumin U2 and a Playback Designs MPD-8 DAC that is currently connected to the Lumin via USB (I am working on trying out the Plink converter soon).

The house network is:

Consolidated Communications (Fidium) ISP fiber to their converter box that then runs to an EERO router; the other port of the EERO is run to a basic Netgear GIGE switch and a CAT6 cable is then run to another GIGE switch( in the audio room) that has an SFP port.

Other key components in music room:
-Roon Nucleus Plus with a Teddy Pardo LPS.
-LPS for the GIGE /SFP port (designate this as Switch 2, because Switch 1 is immediately connected to the EERO down in the basement)
-Melco S100/2 (switch 3)
-Purist Audio Eth cable

Here is where there are quite a few different options:

Opt 1. SFP from sw2 to Melco exclusive SFP. Roon on switch 2, Lumin on Melco port 1 which is 10/100 only and I think intended for streamers.

Opt 2. As 1, but move Roon to Melco SW

Opt 3. Totally remove SW 2 and connect the Melco to SW 1. Run SFP from Melco to Lumin SFP. Roon connected to Melco

Opt 4. As 3 but connect Lumin to Melco port 1, the dedicated 10/100 port

I am trying to figure out a way to pipe the port from the main EERO directly to the audio room - that way I eliminate SW 1.

I have read that cascading multiple switches can be beneficial. I understand that before the data comes into my house there is a long journey of numerous switches and such from the cloud / data centers.

For me in my limited( just got it a few days ago) experimentation so far, I prefer Option 2; Lumin connected to the Melco’s port one with copper, and the Melco connected to SW 2 via SFP- Roon also connected to the Melco via copper.

Oh ya I did order a Farad 3 power supply for the Melco and that arrives next week.

Thanks for reading

Once you get your router sorted why not try all 3 configurations to determine which sounds best to you.
