New System Decisions

After taxes added it’s about $64k which is a dollar amount oddly familiar. My problem is I still never pay retail which makes this game frustrating. Maybe I don’t understand the economics of hifi. The margin on the Humboldt to the dealer is what... 100% 200% no idea. It is possible it is an excellent value @ $64k but I hate taking a punt on something like this. The house I grew up in cost $34k and any time I even consider spending more than that I get a serious reality check.

That said, what about a Progression S350 stereo amp? Run it direct into your Rossini.

I thought I read an another thread, your lack of positive impressions on the Clock.

Try using Shunyata Sigma V2 or Omega clock cables for improvement.

Buy a horn speaker instead and low watt amps for under 5k or 10k. The 55k difference in the amp cost can be used to buy bitcoin

What do you mean by “saturated” sound? Doesn’t have the channel separation/refinement of seperates?
Saturated: the sound has plenty of meat on the bone

Still the idea ( however brash ) that Kedar is making is a good one. How 'hard to drive' a speaker is should be equated to a cost ( in amplifier expense ) when calculating system expense...

Ok system is finalized and wires being sent. Ended up with

1. Magico A5
2. ??????? (It’s a secret to be revealed next season of my thread)
3. HRS SXR with 4 shelves
4. Alpha 75ohm clock wires

Thanks to all for your input. I’ll post some pics once it’s setup.

Well done on a excellent system.

Funny thing is my first hifi cost me 500 bitcoins. The new system about 2 bitcoins. Quite a change in eight years. It used to be funny when I’d have friends listen to my “$1 millio hifi” but it’s depressing that it’s now my “$34 million hifi”

I love my Octave HP 700/RE 320 preamp/amp combo.

As you say, clarity and detail. I would add: excellent dynamics and believable timbre. For example, rosiny, wooden tone on violin but also silvery overtones, all when recorded as such. Not a one trick pony presenting music with a color that pervades everything
Hi,
I am considering an upgrade from the Octave HP-300SE to the HP-700SE. Did you by chance have the possibility to compare those two preamps at some point?
I am running also a RE 320. On Marten Parker Trio speakers.
Cheers
David
