NFL Start Of Season

Pats lose

49ers win

Looks like they might be ranked number one this week Frantz

early on it appears that the NFC West may not be the weakest conference; in fact it might be among the best.

interesting how all the pundits are ripping on the Cowboys after yesterday, nobody gives my Seahawks any credit. i guess we'll need to beat the Packers Monday night first.

I like Seattle Mike. I just like the 49ers more

i agree with you.

the 2 teams are quite similar; except the 49ers have much better recievers.

if i had to choose between the defenses, i'd give a nod to the 49ers, the offensive and defensive lines are similar.

i expect the 49ers to win the Super Bowl this year, so you know that i respect them. but the Seahawks will be in the playoff hunt.

RGIII turned in another stellar performance. The Redskis not so much. He did however fail my lithmus test. Despite two oppurutnities, he was unable to lead his tem from behind.

Can we bring back the regular referees? It appears the replacements are to star struck to toss any players from the game based on misbehavoir.

Awww Come on Greg!!! The kid is two games old and his team wasn't playing well... The referees didn't help either with those strange ball placements and those late wistle blows.. He did his best and during the whole game acted like a veteran.. This kid is special

On the Seahawks side. I am impressed. The QB is good not RGIII good though no rookie seems to be not even Luck.. The defense is impressive with a secondary that instill fear in many receivers and Tight-ends... The Safeties are HUGE .. WIth The Strong safety a 6'3" 230 lbs speedster and the Free safery about 200 lbs,/could have been a linebacker and hitting ferociously .. Dallas receivers were not comfortable with these guys propensity to legally remove some body parts ...

The 49ers are for real . They along with the Saints punctuate the importance of a good Head Coach. My quibble is Alex Smith : Can he win the tight games, a la Eli Manning ... if it come to a QB duel can he outplay a stellar offense? Can he overcome brutal defense that clamp on Gore? Decent QB but in an incrasingly QB-driven league, can he win when comes playoffs time? Against monsters from the NFC East and North (Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins, Packers, Bears, Vikings, etc) and the not-so-benign South (Saints,Falcons, Tampa Bay, Carolina) ??? He hasn't proven that to me ... Remember the front office was pursuing Peyton quite heavily ...
Later I am expecting the Packers to rebound they looked lethargic last week ..

There is no question that Alex Smith is the unknown. My biggest gripe was that Akers was their highest scorer only because Smith was so bad in the Red Zone and hence all of the field goals

However his coach is phenomenal and is behind Smith 100%

Anyone know the specifics of what the refs want and what the League has offered? Money? Length of agreement? Retirement income?

Last night's ref job was abysmal -- and not very good either !!

As a good friend used to say: "what a cluster..."

Pension money. They would lose $30k a piece. Fox Radio.

Having watched with great anticipation the 49ers vs Vikes game yesterday, several certainties were evident

1. Nothing is certain on "any given Sunday"

2. Ponder and Peterson pounded the otherwise stellar 49er defense

3. Try as I can to jump on the Alex Smith band wagon constantly proves impossible for me

4. David Akers will once again be their number one scorer as long as Alex Smith fails to convert in the red zone which once again he did yesterday

5. The referees should all be shot and the NFL should be offended that this type of officiating is allowed to continue. Did anyone see at the end of the game, Jim Harbaugh call his last time out and then challenge a fumble when he had no challenges left. Not only did the refs reverse the call on the field when he was out of challenges but, even though they reversed it, the Vikes although fumbled the ball, did recover their own fumble. Simply appalling

Two words: Peyton Manning. :)

Too early to tell, 49ers just lost a game .. I hope you weren't expecting a 16 - 0 season ...

The officiating was appalling. It shouldn't be allowed to continue. Really the integrity of the game is at stake .. The kid from the Raiders got hit on the head and noot a flag was thrown, meanwhile during the Pats - Ravens game it was anything goes; You breath too close to the receiver : Pass Interference.. You grab his jersey and bring to the groundthis ugly situation : No call ... Meanwhile some Analysts are trying to spin in ways that would not offend the NFL. Chris Collins usually a steady performer IMHO looked bad, trying to say all kind of good things about the inept officiating while being from time to time, forced to tell the truth so compelling and visible the nonsense was .. So he would go from " it is a fun", "It is a throwback to the 30 years ago when there weren't so many rules !!" to " These officials are not the games level; it is too fast and complicated for them.. way above their heads" .. Filp-flopping like some now famous governor ... I wonder what an icon like John Madden would have said about this officiating or the lack of it...??? This has to stop before someone get real hurt ... and the game becomes a lame show ... Goodell may have to be chastised .. A commissionaire can wreck a good league when his actions are not coherent or questioned. The NFL makes too much money to not concede to the officials demand IMHO.

My opinion on what John Madden would say :)

"Well it appears the referees aren't doing such a good job, this is because they are new at the job and do not have the experience of the old referees"

I have one word for the striking referees. PATCO(Ok acronym).

Hi

Can this B.S go on? Sorry about the use of expletive but this can't go on ... The NFL is getting a serious black eye with this officiating fiasco .. anyhow ..

Seattle Seahawks are for real ... They din't win this game but they are for real and will win some real games. This one they lost ...

anyone see the end of the Pack vs Seahawks game

Unbelievable how appalling the officiating is. For the Pack to lose that on yet another blown call by the officials is mind boggling

Now if the strike goes on all season, can you imagine the officiating in the playoffs or even worse, The Super Bowl
