the 468's have degrees more timbral nuance and tonal density, and are more at ease and more authoritative command with musical swings and bottom octaves. more flow. more special first watt. less a sense of reproduction and more real. a bit quieter too.....you hear deeper into things. all subtle changes. they don't sound like 'anything' but music. these things were also strengths of the 458, but this is a step up. a very 'darTZeel-like' move forward. i'm told they don't measure quite as well in some respects (rated at slightly less power) but in a real world result work better. exactly how Herve would do it. on my 97db, 7 ohm MM7's i could not be more satisfied. and people with more demanding speaker systems seem to be very happy.
It's wonderful to have designers that can consistently improve on past works without, shall we say, losing sight of their original goals. It's cool that Herve is as gentle a giant as they come to boot. Great guy. Great products.
