I guess I need to get out there and see what comparably-priced (bargain) LCDs look like, but I can't imagine this is good news for picture quality at the entry level. Last time I looked, cheap, entry-level plasmas looked better to me than all but the most expensive LEDs. And the LEDs still looked like they needed calibration. But I don't like super-bright; lots of folks do.

I'm with ya 100% Tim. I'm in the market for 50-55-60" and I'll be watching plasma pricing real close, as I think we're going to get some even better pricing. Time to start doing some Model searches and look at reviews.

Even the entry-level Pannys are good. Wouldn't want to put them in a sunroom, but under normal lighting conditions, the TV for movies IMHO.

Usually bad things happen at the end of Japanese fiscal year which is March. Surprised that they pulled this plug now. It is a shame.

The hope is now for price reduction of OLED displays. The latest reviews show both LG and Samsung to outperform all plasmas.

I would have agreed a few years ago, but to me, entry-level plasma now looks flickery compared to LCD, and the 'pixel structure' looks too coarse. My entry-level-ish Panasonic LCD (with LED backlight) is lovely - and I'm super-critical of TV pictures.

I picked up my Panasonic plasma about a year ago, just one step down from the best.

The darker the room, the better for serious viewing.

A soft light off far to the side is less destructive than a much weaker and indirect light placed behind my viewing chair.
