That sounds awful, not genuine, not in sync with the other actors who learned their lines. IMO

To be fair, he still has to be the one to deliver and act out those lines. And when he's on top of his game, he is great to watch.

Apparently?? Marlon Brando used to have 'cue cards' with his lines posted in various places on set (including on actors) where the camera could not see them. Not that different.
