In the future I may be looking into purchasing a used Dartzeel NHB-18NS. Finances dictate it will be a Model 1 and I’m just looking for feedback comparing the Model 1 to the Model 2.

Below is what I found Michael Fremer to say:

Key Differences:

Balanced I/O:

Mk1 uses transformer-coupled balanced connections, while Mk2 features direct-coupled balanced inputs and outputs, offering improved signal fidelity.

Digital Display:
Mk2 has a digital display on the front panel to show the volume level in decibels, whereas the Mk1 lacks this feature.

Phono Preamp:
The Mk2's built-in phono preamp is considered superior to the Mk1's, with more adjustable gain and loading options.

Remote Control Functionality:
Mk2 allows for more control adjustments via the remote, including balance adjustments, which is not available on the Mk1.

My thoughts on these four points:
  • Balanced I/O: Not important to me. I do not plan using XLR
  • Digital Display: No biggie
  • Phono Preamp: Do not need as I have my own external phono preamp
  • Remote Control Functionality: No biggie
So with these considerations, does anyone think I’d be missing very much running with the model 1 and not the model 2? I've read that the Model 1 battery is a little more problematic, but that's okay.

I am currently running a VTL TL-7.5III preamp into a Dart NHB-108 Model 2 and it sounds fabulous. With that being said, I really want to experience two Darts playing together while running with a Zeel connection. I also have a Aries-Cerat Helene DAC which has a 50 ohm output, so I was planning on setting up a Zeel connection for that.

I realize no answer I receive is absolute, but I just thought I’d check to see if anyone has any pears of wisdom to share…

Definitely a better external battery configuration. The volume control and balance knobs have been upgraded which was important. Sound is still top notch.
