Hello everyone,

I bought myself a pair of active speakers (beolab 8000) last summer. As i am a student i was not able to get more than the speakers themselves. So untill now i have been using them via the line in with my laptop.

Now i was thinking of connecting my old Turntable (Technics 1210 Mk2) to the speakers, and preferably also my laptop via a preamplifier. However my active speakers can not be regulated, so i am looking for an preamplifier with a volume (best case; bass and treble aswell) control.

I have been looking for a quite long while for an preamp on the internet but could not find anything nice for the price range of 200/300 euros.

I would appreciate someone naming me some options.

Allready thanks allot,

jan

I say you have the most creative alias I have seen for a member! Welcome to the forum.

As common as this scenario is, it is hard to find good products for it. One thing I did for the PC side for a while was to get "multimedia keyboard" that had level control for the PC sound. That allowed me to control the level with my active speakers. Not ideal but very cheap to get. I don't have a good solution for the LP though.

Currently I use an older Rotel pre-amp. I wonder if these could not be found on the cheap on the used market in Europe. I think new mine was $1,000. That was 15 years ago.

Hi

The NAD 3020BEE or the current version the NAD 3026BEE may fit your budget. I am very familiar with the Beolab 8000 .. sound much better when it is not asked to reproduce bass. In that sense a HT receiver with Subwoofer output can help you coerce the best of it. Depending on room size you could consider Paradigm or Velodyne subs. I have gotten great results with a pair of Beolab 8000 using a Velodyne mini-vee in a small room and a Yamaha AV receiver crossed at 80 Hz...
