Surprised to come here and find no post on the passing of this musical giant and arguably the originator of the Americana genre. Songs penned by Robbie Robertson are woven deeply into the fabric of American culture, although he was born in Canada. Will be listening to the Band and period appropriate Dylan for the next several days.

I always found the lyrics for the Band 's songs to be bizarre when looked at on paper. They just don't add up. But when put to music, DYNAMITE! Similar to Bob Dylan in that respect. Yes, songwriters are poets, but they are more than that. They use music as an element in their poetry and there's a unique talent involved in that.

Robbie was off of my favs. I was fortunate to see him live with The Band and as a solo artist. Great singer songwriter and guitarist. RIP Robbie. Thanks for the music and memories.
