There was a time when I loved to watch scary movies. Lately, not that much. LOL

The scariest I have seen that have scared me out of my wits would be The US version of THE RING and The Changeling, a Canadian production starring George C. Scott in the late 70s. The music and sound effects contributed a lot to scare the audience, aside from the visual and story lines.

I'm sure there are a lot more out there, what are yours?

I haven't seen PA part 2. Wonder if it's better.

I've got it in the cue. It's got a hard act to follow. I heard it's a prequel that explains some of the things that happen in the first one.

ah, maybe if i get the chance, i'll watch it.

Burnt Offerings. Late 70s film with Oliver Reed and Karen Black. I cannot erase the creepy face of Karen Black at the end of the movie. Reading the synopsis again on Wiki spooks me out as I have virtually forgotten the plot but not Karen's face.

Changeling, the one with George C. Scott, creeped me out as a kid. If you found The Ring or The Grudge (Japan or US) scary check out the Thai version of Shutter. Yikes.

I have the BD of The Unborn but nobody wants to watch it with me. The trailer looked mean.

Has anybody seen The Rites? I wonder how it would stack up to the movie that still holds my personal top spot for horror, The Exorcist.

Jack,

So you saw The Changeling too back then huh. I saw it on a theatre as our college management association was a sponsor of that movie. Man, what a choice! Watching it on big screen had that full effect of riding Space Mountain without being able to get off it once you get on. LOL When I went home, I couldn't sleep and I had to bring my pet Spitz dog into my room to have something in this world sleep with me, you know what I mean. LOL. I haven't seen Shutter or Unborn yet but as I said, my taste in horror has slowed down. LOL Re the Exorcist, I saw it long ago but I recall lots of scenes were cut by the Censors and I had to close my eyes at Linda's incredible transformation scenes. Lately I decided to skip The Rites in the theatres as the last exorcism film I saw (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) left me waking up in the wee hours from a nightmare that had my heart beating fast -it was so real. That led me to slow down on these type of films.

Peter Jackson's version of "King Kong", the vicious natives and the relentlessly murderous flora and fauna of Skull Island. The huge leech sucking down the crew man was terrible.

Parts of LA Confidential were terrifying, especially at the end when Guy Pierce and Russel Crowe were surrounded by the crooked cops at the abandoned motel.

First time I watched The Birds it scared the bejeebers out o' me.

Legend of Hell House.

House on Haunted Hill.

House of Wax.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Omega Man.

Last House on The Left was both frightening and sickening. First film that made me want to puke.

I think you can get a idea of the era in which I grew up.

As a kid, for me it was the Changeling and The Exorcist. I've watched this again recently and now its pretty old.

As a grown up, The Sixth Sense for me.

HI All,
"Alien", the first one. I originally saw it in a theater where it blew the roof off, figuratively.

There are a lot of others. "Seven" also did it for me. "No Country For Old Men" was amazing. And, of course, one of my all time favorites, "Fargo". And who can forget "Forbidden Planet"? After all, that's where we got the Krell. What about the original silent "Nosferatu", a Dracula movie before there was a Dracula in popular culture? Does "Predator" count? It does with me.

Last, and almost too painful to watch, was "Hostel". I hated it but fascination kept pulling me back in. It was too good at doing what it tried to do; scare the hell out of me. Totally revolting but effective.

When I was kid Alfred Hitchcock was the man. He could scare you with minimal gore and special effects. Imagine what he could do with special effects.
