My HT is in my living room and I have two subs connected to my Marantz processor, a 10 inch sunfire and a 10 inch klipsch. I also have a third 12 inch monoprice flat sub mounted high on the back wall which is connected to the Paradigm PW Amps I use for my rear height and rear surround speakers and it integrates with those speakers using ARC room correction.

The bass in my room sounds deep, but not really tactile during action movies. Should I swap out my 10 inch subs for a pair of Starke SW15 sealed subs?

The surface area will certainly help. How loud do you listen? Can you try them and return? I use a pair of vented 15's for LFE and no issues at all wrt being tactile.

Thanks for the reply, I listen at around 70-80 DB. Starke has a 30 day return policy so yes. They offer both sealed and ported subs but since I have a smaller room I was thinking sealed. The sealed extend down to 14 hz, ported down to 18 hz.

Well in that case I would find out what the return shipping is and go from there. If that's you average you are bellow THX levels. Have you tried trimming the sub levels up watching movies? Just an idea I can adjust center surrounds and LFE on the fly while watching. Usually I don't and but I am also closer to THX levels just an idea before you pull the trigger.

Good luck hope it works out keep us posted.

What are the THX levels? I'll try bumping it up during movies and share what happens. Thanks

85 dB @ Calibration @ -20 dB Volume and 105 @ 0dB

Here this explains it better, and is a good reference site. Also look up subwoofer levels they have an extra 10dB of headroom if I remember right.

Great, thanks Rob:)

Going from a pair of 10" subs to a pair of 15" subs will certainly be noticable. You will feel more pressure.

I turned up the wick to THX levels and watched Gandhi, I liked it. Not enough workout for the subs, will try some action films next time, good tip, thanks.

So, I turned it up to just below THX levels and it sounded great, I don't think I need to get bigger subs, Thanks!!
