I recently connected my cd player to the DMC20 Series 2preamp with balanced cables to Aux 3 input. Most of the cd's I played I could go 1 click on the volume and even that was much louder that using the Disc input. At 2 clicks it was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to it was so loud. Any ideas what is going on? Any help much appreciated.

The DMC -20 has up to 40 db of gain. The manual discusses attenuation of inputs. Try connecting single ended to the disc input. No sure what amp you are using and what disc player you are using. Some modern disc players can output several volts. Guessing the DMC-20 was designed for 1V of input. Same for your amp. If it has a lot of gain you might be heavily overloaded on gain.
