Has anyone heard these speakers? I currently have the pleasure of borrowing a pair of CR1's, but unfortunately don't think that I can stretch sufficiently to buy a pair at the moment, so I'm (sort of ) considering a pair of GE-1's as a second best option - although I haven't actually heard them. I'll certainly want to demo them before/if I buy them, but before I waste my and a dealer's time, I thought that I'd ask for any feedback or opinions on them, particularly with reference to the, er, reference models. Would I be better saving for some CR1's or might I be pleasantly surprised by the cheaper floorstander's from TAD do you think?

Amp is Gryphon Pandora and Mephisto and currently using SF Serafino's, so all TAD options are likely to be better.

As a complete wildcard, on paper, how would you expect the GE1's to compare to the new Gryphon EOS 5's?

The CR1 are better, in a different league than the GE- 1 in my experience. The GE-1 sound different than SF Serafinos, not necessarily "better", have different sonic signature. You can always bargain about the pricing of the CR-1 with the distributor. If you are in the USA, they have unreasonably (in my view) jacked up their prices, almost doubled in the last couple of years. Ask if they would sell their demo CR1, at rather substantial reduction if that works for you.

Thank you for your thoughts, very helpful! I caved in, and after a bit of negotiation I managed to secure a price that I was happy with, and so now have a pair of CR1TX's. They're mega, and I'm very pleased with them. :)

I have to say that IMO the SF Serafino's are a bit of a bargain, and I still think they are a good speaker.

Congrats! The CR 1 are superb! Are you in the USA? You are the first person I have met on forums that has purchased the new model CR1, since they'd jacked up the price.

No, I'm in the UK. I don't think that TAD speakers are that popular for some reason, or at least those who have them don't seem to make much noise about them!

I wonder if there have been many or any changes made to the 'TX' variant since the original CR1's came out? I recall reading somewhere that there may have been changes made to the drivers and possibly changes in manufacturing the cabinets, but that's just internet conjecture I think. Either way, they sound good.
