Yes folks, that is how I feel. I just migrated from a Blackberry, which I have been using for 8 years.

Never a dropped call, excellent email client, and long battery life.

The iPhone 5 has a deplorable battery life. It is down to 10% by mid evening.

The transition from portrait to landscape takes an eternity. It was dropping calls
before a huge firmware update.

I don't find it intuitive at all. Over rated, over hyped, and over priced.

The Bold series are my all time favorites. I now use two 4S' and except for a few useful apps, I still don't like touch screens period. IOS Android, MS or Symbian it doesn't matter who makes them.

Andre

I bet you have many many apps open. Have you double clicked on your home button which then shows all open apps. Close them. Also if you allow push notifications that consumes a lot of battery life

Take it into your local Apple store ad make a appt at the Genius bar. Ask them to walk you through it

Agreed - too many apps open and primarily push notifications.

Steve, I literally only have 5 apps on the phone..Squeezebox controller, an RSS feeder, Bloomberg, and two others. I rarely have more than on or two open at
a time.

My last blackberry has been all over the world..even China. It may be an uncool device now, but it sure as hell works.

Andre, what carrier are you using? I'm on AT&T and I have had no problem with dropped calls or slow transitions. I agree with Steve's advice...take the phone to
the local store and get an appointment at the genius bar. ( which you can even make in advance online on the Apple webpage).
I'm a former 'Berry' user and IMO the iphone is in a different league, I'm never looking back. Plus, I'm still using a 4s with the ios 6 update.
Give it a little time and get that appointment, I'm sure you will change your mind in no time.:)

Dropped calls. It's the single biggest reason why I gave up on the iPhone. Never had that issue with any other phone either before or my current one. Battery life wasn't great, but then neither is my Galaxy Note as I have to charge it every night with normal use.

I have been using an iPhone for almost 4 years. I am in my car all day every day driving all over the metro Atlanta area and with AT&T, I typically had 4 to 6 dropped calls per DAY. I switched to Verizon, and have had maybe 6 dropped calls in 18 months.

And it is not just how many apps you have open that will affect battery life and possibly down the response but how many are actively processing while open. For example, if you have anything open that is enabled to tell where you are (like a GPS app), that really can affect performance. I had a number of other high end phones before the iPhone and the speed of the iPhone is far superior. But that's just me.

The iPhone 5 has a 1400mAh battery. FYI, the iPhone 4 had the same size battery, but the '5 has a larger screen, faster CPU, and (most significantly) ... LTE. If you want decent battery life from the i5, use it like the low-end device that it is. Turn off LTE, turn off GPS, turn off Wifi, dim the screen, and cross your fingers.

Used to drop a lot of calls with AT&T, switching to Verizon took care of that. I do find GPS/location services to be the biggest battery drain -- switching off a lot of apps that employ location services that don't need it for my use helps. Go to the privacy tab in Settings to disable those apps for which location info doesn't matter to you. You may want to do so anyway from a privacy standpoint. Another thing to do is a full reset. Press and hold the home and top buttons -- swipe to try off then restart. One thin though: no screen and app driven phone will have as good battery life as one without. Really, it's carrying a computer vs carrying a phone.

As for the above post, the 5 is consistently rated to have as good or better battery life than most other screen phone out there other than one of the much larger Droids. Looking at the screen and battery size and judging doesn't take into account continued advances in power management at the component and software level. To wit, the 5 has about the same battery life as the 4S despite the larger screen and LTE. I get thru the day and into the night typically.

As for taking forever to switch from portrait to landscape -- take it into a store. That should be very quick regardless of any settings. Something's wrong.

I'm on Verizon. Steve's, and your advice is sound..but I am just too lazy and too busy to get to an Apple store.

The thing is I still have not bought into the BS that Apple has sold a good number of people..that a phone is a "lifestyle" product.

I don't tweet, facetime, or anything else. I talk and send emails and texts.

Ultimately, the high resolution touch screen is the major reason for battery drain. No way around it.

As you said, the screen is going to be a battery drain...regardless of phone type..Android or Apple...

PS. I do have location services turned off on all apps except for the phone locater...

No doubt AT&T sucks...unfortunately Verizon doesn't have service near my house :(.

For as good as the iPhone is a lifestyle/computing device, the phone has always been a weakness.

I can't comment on battery life. Did you change carriers? That's usually the source of dropped calls. I have a Crackberry (work phone) and an iPad. They are radically different interfaces and you're suffering from adaptation anxiety. Trust me. Once you get accustomed to it, the Apple interface is more intuitive. You'll put in new applications, try new functions, and how they work will just seem...natural. But it takes awhile if you're coming from a radically different OS.

How long did it take your Blackberry to transition from portrait to landscape? :)

Got me on the Blackberry!

I have been with Verizon for 8 years, so no carrier switch. There is a bit of adaptation anxiety I guess.

Andre,

I don't see a point in sticking with it. Why don't you move back to Blackberry? I'll buy your iPhone 5. I'll even trade you for the Blackberry of your choice.

PS: this is a serious post, I'm not joking.

But his iPhone would have to be unlocked for you to use it in Brazil

Actually, no. Verizon phones are unlocked for GSM networks, and that's all we have here.
The AT&T version is locked for GSM, though, and I don't know about the Sprint...
