A chronicle of King George VI's (Firth) effort to overcome his nervous stammer with the assistance of speech therapist Lionel Logue (Rush).

This movie has garnered critical acclaim and appears a shoo in for Academy Award consideration

Thanks for that Steve! I've not heard about this movie, but just like I love me a good western, I love historical bio-pics even more. This looks like a winner! And as an aside, the more I see Geoffrey Rush, the more I'm convinced he's one of the finest actors in the business today.

My partner who is in the academy and hence votes for Oscars was just telling me how great this movie is. I have not seen it but must be a good one.

Another classic modern British film is "The Gathering Storm".
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314097/
A great version of history around Winston Churchill, the civil servant who leaked the information that helped Churchill before WW2 kicked off, and the personal lives of both.
Has that feel of the very good British historic/period films.

The other war related film is "The Lost Battalion".
Again true story this time focusing on what I would say is one of the most heroic battalions in WW1.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0287535/

Both low key films, both incredibly good and factually orientated.
Cheers

For some reason, every time I hear the title of this movie, my brain hears it as The King's Peach.

I've got this on my To Watch pile, should get to it soon.

I want to see how this compares to James and The Giant Peach.

You don't get a lot of movies in the Peach genre.
