and the songs were terrific
Simply put , this is a must see film. It is Lin Manuel Miranda's directorial debut and boy, does he deliver. Without question this is Andrew Garfield's best role to date. Great acting and a set of pipes that had him singing falsetto's that brought a lump to our throats. I never knew he could sing let alone sing so well

Synopsis
On the cusp of his 30th birthday, Jonathon Larson, a promising young theater composer, navigates love, friendship, and the pressures of life as an artist in New York City.
For those who don't know, Jonathon Larson was the creative genius behind Rent, the show which ran for 11 years on Broadway. Sadly Larson never got to see the premiere of Rent as he died the day before the show opened from a ruptured aortic aneurysm
The reviews to the film are hugely positive with a few negative reviews from people who didn't like Miranda's directing style
Known worldwide as a production that changed the trajectory of contemporary musical theater, Jonathan Larson’s Rent profoundly influenced a generation of theater artists, including a young Lin-Manuel Miranda, who first saw the show in the late ’90s.
Before Rent, though, there was Larson’s semi-autobiographical Tick, Tick … Boom!, a smaller-scale, 1990-set rock musical about a New York playwright struggling to find his voice as the days and minutes tick down to his 30th birthday. As he was first coming to prominence with his Broadway production of In the Heights, Miranda played the lead in a New York staging of Tick, Tick … Boom!, laying the groundwork for the current film adaptation, his feature directorial debut
I would have to think that this film will be nominated for many awards including "ensemble cast" which had a list pages long
This one will make you smile and a minute later you'll have a lump in your throat.
Lin Manuel Miranda IMO has a long and bright future. What a creative genius
