Tired of formats, nostalgic for great 44/16 music

I am so in agreement here...i decided a while ago after tons of searching..........................but i have no desire to look at hi-res or other formats. I just listen to music.

I so agree with your comment Lloyd, that even though transferring my vinyl to 2xDSD for listening convenience I have yet not come across one DAC/player that covers all of my preferences.............if it does redbook well it does not have capability for DSD and vice versa may not meet my listening preference. It may have to be a case of analog style where one has many arms and cartridges for different preferences, similar for digital where you use one dac for red book and another for Hi-rez (mainly DSD).

Cheers,
Neville

Same here. I have a dedicated CD player that I really like and a separate server/DAC for Hi-Rez. My incoming DAC will have two separate engines in one chassis, PCM and DSD but will share the same analog output stage. Don't ask me about cartridges. I'm a certified addict! :D

Yes, i came to this conclusion largely on my own...but not entirely without help. Both on the software side, the quality of mastering perspective (vs quality of medium)...but also on the idea that digital that does DSD exceptionally well does not often do PCM exceptionally well also. In fact, I was specifically advised by one Editor to focus on the best redbook period given my predilictions (Zanden in his opinion)...and leave hi-res as an entirely separate matter.

I then spoke with Zanden and asked them about the possibility of a latest upgrade to their digital. Now that they have introduced a new phono stage, preamp and 2 amps (integrated and stereo), i thought it might be time to revisit the digital domain. I sent them a 'wish list'...one of which was the possibility of combining two digital engines like the Light Harmonic in one chassis...one for redbook and one for his-res...to allow existing Zanden 4-box owners to keep their existing systems and upgrade. We shall see.

It appears an upgrade/new release is in the cards...its a question of when and what it will be.
