Tube rolling in Incito S?

Hi

Do try fiddling with bias , as the 7788 would definitely not have same sweet spot as the 280,

Have this in mind whenever you tube roll, even with same type tube.

@Aries Cerat Thanks Stavros and this is Joe from Hong Kong, long time no see and hope you are doing well :)

Im using 240 for 7788, shall i increase a bit to drive more meat and bass from it?

Thx so much

@oldmustang heard from my friends who owns both gz34, metal base is more on the hifi side with more resolution and aggressive, while fat base is more netural and musical, i made some changes on other gears (such as tube roll in pac2) and want to find a more easy listening combo now, that's why i ordered the fat base gz34 to test which my friend highly recommended, it should arrive in 2 weeks and let me share the difference with you soon, if you are looking dor a more dynamic and hi res sound, definitely you can try the metal base gz34

Thank you Joe. I'll look forward to learning what you hear.

I've had a couple of years of really "hi-fi sound" and like you, I am enjoying a more musical combination with my new system. So perhaps I got luck with the fat-base Mullard, since that fits my musical preferences more.

I appreciate you sharing the information!

Hello Joe

Happy to hear from you again. Hope all is well in HK :)

The sweet spot will be different than the previous tube that is for sure. First try on 210 and then on 280, try to get the feel of this type on the limits. Then it is easier to "navigate" when biasing. The 7788 has wider "curve drift" from the other types, so it really pays off to get to know your pair of tubes before you settle down.

Cheers

@oldmustang Hi Steve, I ordered 2Mullard gz34 fat base and 1 arrived already (F31 B9F), it's less hifi and more musical than the metal base one (Tv2 57)and really a good match with the 7788, i think metal base is a better match with E280 which balance the tone and fat base sounds better with E280

Unfortunately, after i update the xmds in my Taiko SGM Extreme to the latest backend 2.5, i lost the magic which the 11Jan backend offered, especially lost those tonal saturation, texture and less engaging now, i can only based on roon to compare them, i will give a week for fat base +7788 to burn in first, keep you post

Thanks so much Stavros The bias setting is really helpful after tube rolling, my fat based gz34 + 7788 combo sounds so good now even the Taiko server degraded, thanks for creating so many magical gears - Kudos to you

Thank you very much for your feedback. I hear much the same as you -- I think the fatbase is a really good match with the 7788.
